Full job description
Green City Force (GCF) is seeking a strategic, relationship-driven development professional to help grow the resources and partnerships that fuel our mission. The Senior Development Manager will play a central role in expanding GCF’s corporate and government funding portfolios, strengthening funder relationships, and producing compelling proposals and reports that demonstrate the impact of our work.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is part of a collaborative Development team and works closely with finance, executive, program, and communications colleagues across the organization. The Senior Development Manager will lead key fundraising strategies, manage a portfolio of institutional relationships, oversee grant development and reporting, and help create meaningful opportunities for corporate partners to engage with GCF.
This is an opportunity for a strong writer and relationship builder who is energized by ambitious goals, complex projects, and the chance to help a mission-driven organization deepen its impact and grow sustainably.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Revenue Growth
Manage and grow GCF’s corporate and government funding portfolios, identifying new revenue opportunities and advancing strategic fundraising goals.
Develop and implement plans to cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and government funders in partnership with the Executive Director and Development team.
Research and qualify institutional prospects, with a primary focus on corporate and government funding opportunities.
Support fundraising events and other revenue streams as needed, contributing to GCF’s annual fundraising goals.
Grant Development & Management
Lead the drafting, editing, and submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, grant applications, reports, and other funder communications.
Manage the full lifecycle of grant submissions and reporting, including calendars, internal workplans, contributor coordination, data requests, deadlines, and final submission.
Coordinate government funding proposals and related requirements, helping to establish clear internal processes for application and reporting compliance.
Monitor grant and contract review processes, ensure required documentation is complete, and proactively address potential delays or gaps.
Work across departments to gather programmatic data and impact stories, and use fundraising data to inform strategy and decision-making.
Relationship Management & Stewardship
Cultivate and steward relationships with corporate partners and government funders, in close coordination with the Executive Director.
Plan and oversee corporate volunteer activities, site visits, and other engagement opportunities that strengthen relationships with current and prospective partners.
Prepare clear funder briefings, talking points, and meeting materials, and ensure timely follow-up on relationship-building opportunities.
Development Operations & Communications
Support strong Development systems and processes, including accurate and timely Salesforce data management and pipeline tracking.
Prepare fundraising and portfolio updates for leadership, Board, and Committee meetings under the direction of the Executive Director.
Contribute to GCF’s external communications and visibility efforts, including drafting web, blog, and other public-facing content as needed.
Help guide the development of high-quality collateral and visual materials, coordinating with staff, volunteers, or consultants as appropriate.
Support the organization and maintenance of photo and other communications assets used to tell GCF’s story authentically and effectively.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
5+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, institutional giving, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated success developing fundraising strategies and securing or growing institutional support from corporate, government, or foundation funders.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience producing persuasive proposals, reports, and other funder-facing materials.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, stakeholders, and priorities with accuracy and follow-through.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-management skills, including comfort working with senior leaders, funders, partners, and colleagues across teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use data and performance metrics to track progress, identify risks, and adjust course as needed.
Sound judgment and the ability to weigh multiple factors, anticipate challenges, and recommend practical solutions.
Ability to lead cross-functional processes and meetings with clear objectives, timelines, responsibilities, and action steps.
Proficiency with CRM databases such as Salesforce and with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools.
Alignment with GCF’s culture of problem solving, youth development, and commitment to environmental, economic, and social justice.
