Now hiring:  Primary Form Adviser, Prep School

Employment Terms: Full-Time, 5 Year Contract 

Start Date: August 2026

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, curious and flexible Primary/Junior teacher for our Prep School Primary Division to teach a full course load. Form Advising (Homeroom teacher) and co-curriculars are also included in this position.

Prep School teachers educate students in grades SK to 7.  They demonstrate passion and diligence in their core subjects and interdisciplinary learning, across the Humanities, Sciences, Languages, Physical Education, the Arts, English, Design and Mathematics. Their role involves planning, reviewing and revising curriculum as part of department teams, as well as implementing approaches to teaching in learning that are student-centered and skills-based.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Academic

  • Prepare and implement lesson plans and assessment pieces following IB-PYP and College guidelines;

  • Employ best practices for teaching students at the primary division level;

  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, assemblies and various professional development opportunities;

  • Collaborate with our PYP IB Coordinator to develop units of work;

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the division and beyond, with humility and openness to feedback on all aspects of the role, from students, parents and colleagues;

  • Participate fully and collaboratively in a shared approach to weekly routines and processes. 

Advising

  • Advisers are the main point of contact for their class and provide pastoral care on a daily basis;

  • The adviser is the point person between families and the school, with an eye to support a student's overall progress and wellbeing.

Co-curricular and Supervisory

  • Lead with skill, passion and enthusiasm within our co-curricular program, including the arts and athletics;

  • UCC students benefit from a robust co-curricular program including athletics. Many teams have the opportunity to participate in weekend and CAIS tournaments. Some CAIS weekend tournaments are out of province;

  • Supervision duty as assigned.

Job Requirements

Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Both a Bachelor’s degree and a Bachelor of Education;

  • Teachers’ Qualifications in Primary-Junior; 

  • Minimum 3 years of Practicum or teaching experience with Primary-Junior students;

  • Maintains accurate records, plans assessments within policies, utilizes learning management systems, and demonstrates subject matter expertise;

  • Demonstrates commitment to justice, fairness, equity, and values diversity to create an inclusive community, addressing issues related to bias and prejudice;

  • Possesses a collaborative disposition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Designs lessons to address diverse needs, styles, and interests, fostering problem-solving and lifelong learning;

  • Demonstrated an ongoing commitment to personal growth and professional development;

  • Values diverse perspectives and fosters an inclusive community and work environment;

  • Understanding of educational policies, procedures, and administrative processes;

  • Ability to assist with administrative tasks, such as record-keeping, grading, and organizing classroom materials;

  • Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems;

  • May involve supervising students during classroom activities or on field trips;

  • Collaborating with the lead teacher or other staff members in managing classroom dynamics;

  • Requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills to create engaging  and effective lessons plans;

  • Ability to analyze student performance and provide appropriate feedback;

  • Emotional resilience to manage diverse student needs and behaviours;

  • May involve assisting students with physical activities or mobility needs;

  • Setting up and arranging classroom furniture, materials, and equipment;

  • Work is primarily conducted in a classroom setting;

  • Regular interaction with students, teachers, and parents;

  • May involve occasional extracurricular activities, such as field trips or parent-teacher meetings.
