AtkinsRéalis is expanding our Hydropower team in Ontario to support a series of nation‑building projects and hydropower refurbishments that help keep Canada’s electrical grid reliable for decades to come. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will develop design packages for hydroelectric balance‑of‑plant systems including medium and high voltage systems, and support project delivery from conceptual design through construction support and commissioning as required. This role is based out of our Toronto (West Mall) office and offers a hybrid working environment, with occasional travel to project sites as required.
Your role
Lead and deliver conceptual and detailed design for hydroelectric Balance of Plant (BoP) electrical systems, including medium and high voltage systems.
Develop station service AC and DC power distribution designs, including motor controls and auxiliary power systems.
Prepare and/or review key electrical drawings and documentation (single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams).
Prepare and/or review technical specifications and data requirements for major equipment (MV switchgear / generator circuit breakers, LV equipment, GSU transformers, IPB, HV AIS/GIS).
Perform and/or coordinate power system studies using ETAP (or equivalent) and document results (short circuit, load flow, grounding, arc flash).
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and support delivery activities including QA/QC, proposals/estimates, field reviews and commissioning support; mentor junior engineers/designers as required.
About you
University degree in Electrical Engineering and P.Eng. (PEO) registration in Ontario (or eligibility for registration
Relevant experience in power generation/utility electrical design, with hydropower experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience delivering BoP electrical packages for MV/HV systems, including drawings, specifications, and technical/study reports.
Working knowledge of applicable North American codes/standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, ANSI) and utility practices.
Proficiency with ETAP (or equivalent) and Microsoft Office; AutoCAD/Revit experience is an asset; strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills, comfortable in a hybrid environment with occasional site travel.

Expected compensation for this role is between $100,200 - $137,700 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
