The Instructional Technologist supports faculty in the effective and innovative use of educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning across modalities. This role blends technical expertise with pedagogical insight, partnering with faculty and the CTLE team to design engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning experiences in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments.
The Instructional Technologist serves as a consultant, trainer, and thought partner, helping faculty align technology use with learning outcomes, institutional priorities, and best practices in teaching. This position plays a key role in advancing digital literacy and instructional quality at the college in alignment with institutional priorities.
Job Duties
Faculty Support & Consultation
Consult with faculty to identify instructional goals and recommend appropriate technologies and strategies to support student learning.
Provide one-on-one and small-group support for faculty using the LMS and related instructional tools.
Assist faculty in integrating active learning, assessment, and engagement tools into their courses.
Translate pedagogical needs into practical, technology-enabled solutions.
Provide support for core instructional technologies (e.g., LMS, video platforms, engagement tools, assessment systems).
Troubleshoot instructional technology issues in collaboration with ITS and Digital Learning.
Pilot and evaluate emerging technologies to determine instructional value and institutional fit.
Professional Development
Design and facilitate workshops, institutes, and learning communities focused on instructional technology and teaching innovation.
Develop clear, accessible documentation, guides, and learning resources for faculty.
Model effective instructional practices during trainings and events.
Collaboration & Strategic Initiatives
Partner with instructional designers, assessment staff, librarians, and campus stakeholders to support teaching and learning initiatives.
Contribute to college-wide projects related to online learning, digital accessibility, faculty onboarding, and teaching excellence.
Track trends in educational technology and teaching practice and share insights with the college.
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in instructional design and technology, educational technology, higher education, learning sciences, or a closely related field.
Experience supporting faculty or instructors in a higher education or training environment.
Experience with learning management systems and instructional technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in faculty development, instructional design, or online learning support.
Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
Experience designing and facilitating professional development programs, projects and events.
Experience in community college or access-focused institutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of effective teaching practices and adult learning principles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with an ever-growing college population.
Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts in clear, approachable language.
