What you’ll do.
The BrainPAC & Political Affairs Manager plays an important role in advancing the AAN’s federal advocacy efforts by leading and strengthening BrainPAC, the Academy’s federal political action committee. This role drives fundraising strategies that support the Academy’s legislative priorities, builds meaningful relationships with members of Congress and their staff through events and engagement opportunities, and brings the AAN’s policy priorities forward to help shape effective federal advocacy strategy.

The AAN, founded in Minneapolis in 1948, supports and represents more than 40,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals worldwide who provide crucial patient care, seek new cures and treatments for brain disease and work to ensure patient access to the right care. Our headquarters is in a stunning, energy-efficient office, located in downtown Minneapolis’s dynamic Mill District, and our public policy office is near the action on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Both locations offer easy access to light rail, major bus lines, parking options, walking/biking paths, and a myriad of dining and entertainment choices, making it a vibrant hub for everyone.
What we look for.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Political Science or related field
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in PAC administration or policy
Demonstrated ability to uphold AAN’s values
Demonstrated ability to fundraise
Demonstrated advanced oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Strong working knowledge of the federal political and legislative process
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and recordkeeping
Anticipates needed actions; plans and follows through with work activities; dependable and focused on getting things done to achieve goals
Experience with a health care industry or physician PAC program is preferred
Experience using SparkInfluence PAC software, or similar product is preferred
Experience using Quorum software, or a similar product is preferred
FEC compliance and lobbying disclosure knowledge is preferred
Demonstrated experience planning meetings and/or events is preferred
Relevant education and/or experience exceeding the required qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required – up to 5%
Location: Washington, DC, and is identified as hybrid (required to work in the office with the ability to work remotely part of the week)
Schedule: Some evening and weekends required
