Students engage in civic and community-based work to build a more just world through placements with organizational partners. Responsibilities include participating in leadership development, attending monthly meetings, and completing a senior capstone project.
Applicants must be federal work-study eligible first-generation college students with a passion for justice-centered work. A commitment to at least two years in the program and the ability to work 8-10 hours per week is required.
The Bonner Community Leaders (BCL) program is part of a nationally recognized network of leadership and scholarship programs through the Bonner Foundation. Augsburg BCL is a cohort of 25 students who commit to doing civic and community-based work and contribute to building a more just world, working in and with communities surrounding Augsburg University. BCL is ideally a 4-year program (students with at least 2 years left at Augsburg are welcome to apply), where students build deep relationships with a cohort of justice-minded peers and staff who support them throughout their academic journey. BCL contributes to Augsburg’s mission to educate students to be informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, critical thinkers, and responsible leaders.

The Minnesota Urban Debate League (MNUDL) is a program of Augsburg University which provides resources and programming to support competitive academic debate in Twin Cities high schools and middle schools. The mission of MNUDL is to empower students through competitive academic debate to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active global citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. Currently, MNUDL currently serves more than 1,400 students at nearly 40 partner schools and has seen sustained growth in student participation since its inception in 2004.
