Full job description
The Role
This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands-on with modern technology and AI. You'll shape the future of our property pre-settlement products across Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, driving technical direction, mentoring engineers, and building innovative solutions that make a real impact.
You'll have the autonomy to influence both the product roadmap and engineering practices while leveraging cutting-edge AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
About You
You're a hands-on Engineering Team Lead who still loves writing great code. You know how to balance technical excellence with commercial outcomes and enjoy leading by example. You're excited by AI and are already using or eager to master modern engineering tools to build better software, faster.
You bring strong experience across C#, .NET, React, TypeScript and SQL, have a track record of managing or mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams, and thrive in fast-paced environments where you can solve complex problems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Lead from the front, remaining hands-on with coding, code reviews and technical delivery across our pre-settlement portfolio.
Own the technical direction, architecture and quality of products supporting property sale and purchase workflows across VIC, TAS and SA.
Partner with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to shape the team's strategy and roadmap.
Build, mentor and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
Balance technical, product and business priorities to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Champion the effective use of AI across the software development lifecycle to improve productivity and engineering quality.
Oversee delivery across a complex product portfolio, managing priorities, timelines, risks and quality.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring software engineering teams while remaining technically hands-on.
Strong knowledge of C# 12+, .NET 8+, EF Core, TypeScript 4+, React 18+, SQL Server and Document DB.
Experience applying AI-assisted software engineering practices across the SDLC using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, MCP servers and AI agents.
Strong technical judgement with the ability to balance engineering quality, product needs and commercial priorities.
Comfortable delivering software in fast-paced, high-volume environments with multiple competing priorities.
Experience in property, conveyancing or legal technology is advantageous, or a genuine interest in learning the domain.
