The Peer Service Navigator facilitates access to internal and external support services for women experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. They work collaboratively within a feminist and anti-oppression framework to provide integrated care in a crisis-driven environment.
Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience working with marginalized populations and possess knowledge of issues such as gender-based violence, mental health, and addictions. Proficiency in record keeping, crisis management, and community resource navigation is required, along with relevant certifications.
The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) exists to support and empower women and children, living in extreme poverty in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, who are particularly vulnerable to violence, exploitation, injustice and injury. Through low barrier Drop-In Centers and Emergency Shelters, DEWC provides basic need services, programs, and specialized supports to over 1000 women and children daily to help them survive the conditions that surround them. The Peer Service Navigator will facilitate women’s access to internal and external services and supports. She will work with women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who live in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Reporting to the Specialized Services Manager she will work in collaboration with other DEWC staff to promote integrated services to women. She will work from a feminist perspective and within an anti-oppression framework.
Healthcare: Extended health & dental coverage including vision; prescription medications; alternative therapies; EAP; life insurance; and long-term disability.
Paid time off: 3 weeks paid vacation in the 1st year, 4 weeks after 1 year; 13 paid statutory holidays; 12 paid sick days annually; and access to time off to handle family or personal situations.

The mission of the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, low-barrier environment for women (cis, trans), two-spirit and gender diverse people from all walks of life, who live and/or work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. To achieve this goal, DEWC provides support by serving meals, crisis response, advocacy and outreach programs which nurture and empower the approximately 900 people who access our services every day. Founded in 1978, DEWC is one of the few safe spaces within the Downtown Eastside exclusively for all women, their children and gender diverse folks. High levels of violence, homelessness, addiction, and poverty disproportionately affect the Downtown Eastside community. The people who access our services are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, injustice, and injury. Located in one of Canada's most marginalized communities, DEWC assists women and gender diverse people with their immediate needs to they can develop stability and access resources they need to improve health, family, employment, and housing situations. We promote positive change by offering individual long-term support, advocacy, peer mentorship, and access to alternatives.
