Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
Are you a compassionate, skilled therapist ready to make a real impact? We're seeking a Suicide Prevention Therapist to provide direct, life-affirming counseling to youth at risk of suicide, survivors, and their families. This vital role blends clinical care with community outreach—offering individual, family, and group support, while leading educational workshops that foster hope, resilience, and healing.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will provide client-centered counseling services through both referrals and self-referrals. This includes delivering individual, family, and group therapy guided by collaborative service plans. Responsibilities also include conducting intakes and assessments, maintaining accurate records, preparing client and service reports, and addressing client concerns. The therapist will actively participate in internal and external meetings to support coordinated service delivery and community development, while continuously enhancing their professional expertise through ongoing learning and development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years’ experience in suicidology. They will demonstrate strong counseling skills, a solid understanding of suicide prevention theories, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle are required, as this is a community-based outreach role. The position is based out of our Surrey, BC office and involves regular travel, including daily commuting to Surrey and attending external meetings to meet clients in the community. First Aid certification and proficiency in a second language are considered assets.
The successful candidate will also exhibit professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and a strong commitment to confidentiality. They will be flexible, self-motivated, and effective as both an independent practitioner and a team member. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and support program development through the creation of relevant resources within a solution-focused framework.
The role is scheduled between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, with flexibility in the days of the week for the right candidate.
This position is open to all applicants and requires union membership.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
