The Opportunity
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for supporting and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the shipping function to ensure products are prepared, loaded, and shipped safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role provides daily direction to shipping employees, works closely with production and other departments, and helps maintain an organized, safe, and efficient shipping operations.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily shipping activities and prioritize work based on production schedules, customer requirements, and shipment deadline.
Provide day-to-day direction and support to shipping employees to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
Coordinate the preparation, staging, and loading of finished products for outbound shipments.
Ensure shipments are accurate and properly prepared in accordance with shipping documentation and customer requirements.
Work closely with Production, Customer Service, Logistics, and other departments to coordinate shipping priorities and resolve issues.
Monitor daily workload and adjust work assignments as required to meet shipping schedules.
Ensure shipping documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Support inventory accuracy by ensuring materials and finished products are properly identified, stored, and moved within designated areas.
Promote and reinforce safe work practices and ensure employees follow company safety procedures.
Maintain an organized and efficient shipping and staging area.
Identify and communicate shipping delays, material issues, or other concerns that may impact customer delivery requirements.
Assist with training and onboarding new employees within the shipping department.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity, and shipping processes.
Assist with investigating shipping errors and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, logistics, or a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Previous leadership, team lead, or supervisory experience is an asset but not required.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with employees and cross-functional teams.
Basic computer skills and experience working with shipping, inventory, or ERP systems is an asset.
Knowledge of safe material handling and shipping practices is an asset.
Forklift experience or certification is considered an asset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and support operational requirements as needed.
