The nurse manager maintains 24-hour accountability for unit operations, focusing on patient outcomes, safety, and clinical efficiency. They lead improvement efforts, manage staff, and ensure compliance with evidence-based nursing protocols.
Candidates must hold a Registered Nurse license in North Carolina and possess either a Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma with five to seven years of related experience. Three to four years of specific related experience is required for the role.
The nurse manager practices in the framework of the mission, vision and values of ECU Health and maintains 24-hour accountability for unit operations. The manager is a clinical leader with focus on producing excellent patient outcomes, patient and family engagement, workforce management/ development and clinical efficiency. The nurse manager is the front line leader who partners with physicians and manages staff and resources to promote safe, timely, efficient, effective and patient focused unit operations.
ResponsibilitiesParticipates in daily unit safety huddle and assures that a safety huddle is conducted at each change of shift.
Develops and implements an effective ongoing program to measure, assess and improve quality of care and patient safety. Trends quality and patient safety outcomes and process measures. Leads improvement efforts based on data.
Reviews and follows up on safety intelligence data.
Coaches and develops unit based teams to achieve top quartile performance amongst peer comparisons.
Builds staff accountability for nursing practice expectations including bundle compliance, return to care practices (Bedside Shift Report, Hourly rounding and use of the communication Boards) and adoption of best practice and evidence based protocols. Assures that we deliver care according to the VMC standard.
Identifies variances in expected performance and implements plans to address variances.
Bachelors Degree or higher
Licensure/Registration/Certification: License as a Registered Nurse, must maintain licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
