Job Summary:
The University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Obstetric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to join our Obstetric Anesthesia Section. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive procedures, and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a full range of perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
The attending obstetric anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants. When working alone, he/she/they examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows the patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
This role involves providing comprehensive anesthesia care for high-risk obstetric patients, including labor analgesia, managing perioperative care during obstetric procedures, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Additionally, the obstetric anesthesiologist will provide solo obstetric and fetal anesthesia care at the Colorado Fetal Care Center, located at the Children’s Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This position offers ample opportunities for clinical education, as well as potential leadership roles in various academic and clinical settings. The position is full-time and will be assigned clinical duties in any of the University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital affiliates.
The candidate must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine, experience in teaching Anesthesiology, and a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology.
As an attending anesthesiologist, the candidate may be required to perform these services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center. Except in specific emergency situations, the administration of anesthesia is limited to areas where anesthesia can be given safely. One or more attendings will be available at all times to provide these services.
As faculty members of the School of Medicine, candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists, as faculty members, are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
