About Ferocia
We're the team behind Up, but under the hood, we're Ferocia - a passionate tech company driven by financial inclusion. Since 2011, we've been crafting innovative financial tools, starting with the digital platform for Bendigo Bank. We believe technology can empower everyone, from the advantaged to the disadvantaged, which is why Up was born.
Now, as part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank family, we combine the agility of a small company with the reach and stability of a major player. Together, we're carbon neutral, community-focused, and dedicated to high standards of corporate governance. Our mission? To leverage technology to help Australians move from financial stress and anxiety to a place of confidence and empowerment.
Want to join us? We'd love to hear from you!
The role
We're looking for 2 experienced Senior Product Designers to lead the work on our savings and home loan experiences. This is a rare opportunity to join a small team and have a real impact on people's lives by helping Australians build savings habits and feel in control of their home ownership journey.
Our designers wear many hats and own projects from start to finish — from idea to successfully shipped. Sometimes it's just a few days on a fun feature, sometimes it's months on a new financial product. So on a normal day, you could be:
Finding and exploring opportunities for every step of the user journey — whether it's reviewing user feedback, conducting interviews, analysing data, playing with a random idea, reinventing the wheel, refining existing concepts, or fixing tiny bugs.
Solving financial problems with a unique approach by focusing on how people feel and what's uniquely "Up". This takes real craftsmanship and attention to detail to make a simple feature feel like a game-changer (interactions, visuals and copy) and a genuine understanding of how people manage their money and use our app.
Building new financial products. This takes deep systems thinking to map complex interactions and dependencies and create a holistic experience across many touchpoints. You'll need to be comfortable with complex technical problems and know how to approach big projects strategically.
Working closely with our creative (Product, Design, Brand) and leadership teams to discuss ideas, review work in progress, help define our roadmap, and shape our long-term strategy. You’ll have to be comfortable designing concepts and interactive prototypes at various levels of fidelity to be able to clearly communicate your ideas to the right audience.
Collaborating with engineering teams to ship high-quality features to our users within our delivery timeframes — by helping scope, prioritise, review, and adapt concepts as necessary. As well as working with our Marketing and Support teams to ensure a great user experience at any touchpoint.
What we're looking for
Experience designing and delivering end to end projects (from idea to successfully launched) — with at least 5 years working with product teams (ideally on a SaaS or consumer product, and even better if it's in Fin-Tech), or within a digital agency.
Creativity and craftsmanship — strong interaction and visual skills, with a keen eye for detail to achieve visually pleasing aesthetics — from tiny micro-interactions, to complex multi-step experiences, and the ability to think outside of conventional approaches. We really pride ourselves in the way we present experiences and the emotional responses we seek from our users.
Problem solving skills and a strong product lens — the ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviours, and to know how to translate this understanding into product opportunities. Being able to think holistically about end to end experiences, and design solutions that fit into an ecosystem.
Collaboration and communication skills — the ability to articulate ideas effectively and provide sound reasoning for decisions, and to use storytelling to inform and influence.
Passion — harder to define, but we're looking for people who have a desire to push the limits, break the status quo, and be at the forefront of where technology is leading us. An eagerness to learn, expand your skills, and do the best work possible.
Technical knowledge, especially front-end, and a general understanding of an agile engineering development process.
Ability to work with a certain level of ambiguity, and "get shit done" autonomously — we operate like a start-up and things can often be messy, undefined, or change at the last minute. We're looking for someone who enjoys innovative fast paced work environments and tackling all sort of problems.
Interview process
More details will be provided on application, but all applicants will go through the same stages:
Intro chat and career review with Sylvain (Head of Design) — 30min
Presentation of 2-3 case studies to Sylvain (Head of Design) and 2 Product Design Leads, for a deep dive into your work and your design skills — 60min
Interview with a cross-functional team (EM, Front-end developer, Product Designer) with a critique of an app of your choice, to understand how you think, and get a feel for what it would be like working together — 60min
