As a key member of the Service team, the Small Engines Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.
What You’ll Be Doing
Diagnose and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
Diagnose, service, and maintain QA rental equipment.
Diagnose and repair customer-owned tools and equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on both fleet and customer equipment.
Maintain and service small-engine-related equipment.
Load and unload customer rental equipment and clearly explain operating instructions as required.
Maintain the yard and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery
Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.

What We're Looking For
Mechanical Experience: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills with 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Small Engines Technician or similar role with experience working on 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines, construction heaters (propane and natural gas), small electrical tools, forklifts, aerial lifts and Stihl, Echo, Hilti, Husqvarna, Gorman-Rupp, Tsurumi and Honda products. Experience with Motorcycle, ATV/UTV, or Snowmobiles.
Experience with seasonal equipment: Lawnmowers, Trimmers, Chainsaws, Pumps, Compaction, Small Generators, Electrical, Battery and pneumatic tooling considered an asset.
Customer Service Oriented: Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
Independent Worker: Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
Endurance: Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.
Safety Focused: A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.
Strong consideration for applicants with 310G, 310s, MSTE (Small Engines Technician Certificate) and/or Manufacturer Certificates.
Flexibility to support on-call schedules and adapt to business demands.
Hydraulic system knowledge
Ability to train apprentices.
Ownership of personal tools is required for the role.
