The Great New York State Fair is searching for a highly organized and dedicated individual to lead our Forage and Grain department as Superintendent for this year’s fair!
Your Role: As the Forage and Grain Superintendent, you will be the central orchestrator of our agricultural competitions. You'll be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all departmental activities, ensuring a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience for everyone involved – from the dedicated exhibitors to the curious public.
The ideal candidate is available to begin Superintendent duties on a part-time basis beginning immediately. Full-time availability will be required during the 13-day New York State Fair, from August 26 through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. This position offers a flat rate of $2,405.00.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Departmental Operations: Oversee all aspects of competitions and exhibitions for Forage & Grain and Fruit & Farm.
- Liaise and Connect: Act as the primary bridge between exhibitors, judges, and Fair Management.
- Maintain Order and Presentation: Ensure the department's spaces are clean, organized, and presentable throughout the Fair.
- Manage Judging Logistics: Schedule and coordinate the arrival and judging of all entries efficiently.
- Champion Safety: Implement and monitor safety protocols, addressing any concerns promptly.
- Oversee Booth Operations: Ensure the department's presence is managed effectively during all operating hours.
- Ensure Accuracy: Collaborate with the Entry Department for precise record-keeping and premium distribution.
- Recruit Top Judges: Identify and secure qualified, impartial judges.
- Support and Assist: Provide courteous and helpful assistance to all stakeholders.
What We're Looking For:

- Strong Communication: Clear and effective communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word and Excel are essential.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to define problems, analyze information, and draw conclusions.
This role requires the ability to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation: Regular standing and walking for extended durations, along with the capacity for moderate periods of sitting. Frequent use of hands and arms is integral to tasks including the manipulation of displays (pulling and pushing from storage), reaching, grasping, and handling various objects. Furthermore, the ability to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds is necessary for the movement of materials such as ribbon boxes and wooden displays.
