Full job description
Your role
You'll be a part of our Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) team based in either our Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane office, and work with lawyers across all of our national offices. Working cohesively with our Partners and the wider team, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which maintains an unparalleled presence in the Australian market. At Allens, our structure means you'll receive exposure to a number of different Partners within your practice group and a wide variety of work. We encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in areas they're interested in, while building a strong foundation across their field.
As an Associate or Senior Associate in our TMT team, you will be involved in a variety of transactional, regulatory, governance and incident management matters including:
Telecommunications and data centres – major commercial projects, regulatory, infrastructure development, services arrangements and major M&A transactions.
Data & AI – data and AI governance and regulatory advice, data commercialisation, engagement with regulators, large-scale compliance uplifts, and investments in and acquisitions of AI companies.
Cyber – responding to cyber incidents, engaging with law enforcement, government agencies and regulators (including on formal investigations and other regulatory enforcement action), advising on cyber regulatory requirements, facilitating and participating in cyber simulations, and assisting with other cyber preparedness activities.
Outsourcing – technology and business process outsourcing and vendor management.
Corporate – business separations and systems integrations and advising on complex corporate carve outs.
Digital transformation projects.
Startups and Innovation – tech and data advisory and transaction work for clients at all stages of their lifecycle, including work on capital raises.
Media – regulatory matters and broadcasting rights deals.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. Hybrid working (60% in the office) is how we work however flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.
About you You will have:
Experience in a TMT team within a top tier law firm, ideally with a focus on TMT work rather than intellectual property matters.
Experience, understanding, and interest in Australian privacy, data protection, and cyber matters and advice.
Australia or other common law jurisdiction experience, ideally with direct involvement in the drafting and negotiation of a broad range of IT/telecommunications contracts.
An ability to effectively contribute to smaller matters and elements of larger matters.
A desire to learn, grow, network and mentor others.
Your development
In joining Allens, you will receive unparalleled learning and development opportunities. You will be challenged, supported and guided as you learn and develop, and will be encouraged to grow. We foster greatness, and will coach and support you to meet your goals and aspirations.
