The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As an EMT, you will render patient assessment, including physical examination and First Aid and Basic Life Support including airway management, circulatory and shock management, clinical assessment, orthopedic care, medication administration, obstetrics, medical and trauma care, patient extrication, and safety. This role requires daytime availability and some nighttime availability for our Roar's N' Snores overnight events.
As an EMT, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
Patient assessment, including physical examination and First Aid and Basic Life Support including airway management, circulatory and shock management, clinical assessment, orthopedic care, medication administration, obstetrics, medical and trauma care, patient extrication and safety.
Recognizes the need for special or additional assistance, including Advanced Life Support, ambulance transport, aero-medical transport, patient extrication, rescue, or other services.
Acts in the best interest of the patient.
Physician contact, patient transfer and referral, transfer of care and follow up.
Telecommunication, radio communications and dispatch of resources.
Information gathering, reporting and documentation according to established procedures.
Employee, peer, and public interaction.
Inspection, inventory, maintenance, preventative maintenance and cleaning of grounds, facilities, work areas, vehicles, supplies, and equipment.
Safety awareness and reporting; understands and performs appropriately under the Emergency Response Plan, including disaster and Multiple Casualty Incident (MCI) operations and management.
Infection control, biohazards material identification, clean up and disposal.
Basic identification of hazardous materials and incidents.
Vehicle operations and defensive driving, including driving vehicles in a safe manner and is familiar with zoo and local geography, routes of response, etc.
Administrative duties may include filling, distribution, computer operations, typing and data entry.
Understands, supports, and follows the Standard Operating Procedures and Patient Care Protocols.
Attends mandatory meetings, training, and education, etc.
May assist other personnel with their duties.
Must remain alert, helpful, and courteous at all times.
Promotes a professional environment.
Inspect fire extinguishers for charge level, location, and ease of access; take corrective action as required, and report findings to appropriate supervisor.
Follow all State, Local, and Federal regulations regarding EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced, & Paramedic protocols.
Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.

Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
CPR Certification is required
Must be Texas State licensed EMT-B, Advanced or Paramedic.
Must have or be willing to receive Hepatitis B vaccination.
Must be willing to have Titers Test check administered.
Effective written and verbal communication skills preferred.
Able to thoroughly, completely, understandably, and correctly complete accident reports.
Able to handle, calmly, and effectively, various types of public contact situations.
Able to contact San Antonio Park Police, SAPD, SAFD, Bexar County Sheriff, EMS, or other emergency agencies to, calmly, distinctly and correctly report an emergency requiring assistance.
Minimum of one year of EMT-related work preferred
Spanish fluency is preferred.
Responsible for completing all online training courses by assigned deadlines.
Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of becoming employed.
Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold)
We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
