Looking for a Veterinary Assistant role where you can use your skills, keep learning, and be part of a team that genuinely supports one another?
At Mohawk Animal Clinic, we're proud of the medicine we practice — and we're just as proud of the team that makes it happen. We're a three-doctor small animal hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, offering a wide variety of cases, including dentistry, surgery, and same-day urgent care appointments.
We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant who enjoys being involved in both patient care and client service. From assisting our medical team to helping clients navigate appointments, recommendations, and follow-up care, you'll have the opportunity to make an impact throughout the entire patient experience.
Most importantly, you'll join a clinic where teamwork isn't just something we talk about. We help each other, share the wins, tackle challenges together, and keep things positive — even on the busy days.
Why You'll Love It Here
A supportive team that genuinely helps each other — no egos, no drama
A "better together" culture where wins are shared and challenges aren't faced alone
Leaders who listen, value your ideas, and appreciate your contributions
A three-doctor practice offering a varied and engaging caseload
Exposure to dentistry, surgery, and same-day urgent care appointments
Predictable scheduling and respect for your time
Three- to four-day work weeks
Rotating Saturdays so you still get your weekends
Flexibility when life happens
Mentorship and training to help you continue building your skills
Opportunities to contribute to both patient care and the client experience
A positive workplace where your growth and contributions matter
What You'll Do
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
Safely and compassionately handle patients while supporting the medical team
Answer phones, route calls appropriately, and respond to voicemails promptly
Make outbound calls, texts, and emails to confirm appointments and follow up on care
Check patients in and out and maintain accurate client and patient information
Collect payments, process invoices, and review estimates with clients
Communicate hospital policies, pricing, and service information clearly
Manage medical record requests, reminders, and basic administrative tasks
Help clients schedule recommended services, rechecks, and follow-up appointments
Educate clients on patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care
Collaborate with veterinarians and technicians to coordinate patient care plans and timing
Help identify scheduling needs and appropriately prioritize urgent cases
Maintain clear communication between clients and the medical team
Support an organized and efficient hospital workflow
Jump in wherever needed to support your teammates and patients
What You'll Bring
Previous veterinary receptionist or Veterinary Assistant experience is an asset
Confidence with patient handling and basic veterinary technical skills, or a willingness to learn
Strong customer service and client communication skills
Experience collecting payments, reviewing estimates, and discussing services with clients
The ability to collaborate closely with veterinarians and veterinary technicians
A positive, dependable, and team-first approach
Strong time-management and organizational skills
The ability to multitask and stay organized during busy days
Experience with ezyVet practice management software is an asset
A focus on building positive, long-term relationships with clients
Comfort communicating with clients by phone, text, email, and in person
Confidence educating clients about next steps, preventive care, and recommended services
The ability to prioritize scheduling needs and recognize urgent situations
A desire to continue learning and developing your veterinary skills
Flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to help wherever needed
The Extras You'll Actually Feel
At Mohawk Animal Clinic, you'll have the opportunity to be involved in more than one part of the patient experience. You'll work alongside our medical team during appointments and procedures while also helping clients understand recommendations, coordinate care, and feel supported throughout their visit.
Our varied caseload means there's always something new to learn. With dentistry, surgery, general practice, and same-day urgent care appointments, you'll have opportunities to build your knowledge and strengthen your skills while working alongside an experienced team.
Just as importantly, we believe work should fit into your life — not consume it. Predictable scheduling, three- to four-day work weeks, rotating Saturdays, and flexibility when life happens are all part of creating a workplace where our team can build rewarding veterinary careers while still having time for the things that matter outside the clinic.
