Company Overview
Fero transforms how communities are built: delivering faster, smarter, and greener buildings tailored for the healthcare, educational, commercial/industrial, and residential sectors. We design and build community-oriented solutions, combining innovative industrialized construction processes with an industry-leading team, a people-first approach, and a state-of-the-art facility. Our goals are to accelerate industrialized construction globally and deliver impactful solutions that uplift communities.
Position Overview
As the Pre-Construction Sales Manager, you will play a key role in building sustainable client relationships by developing a strong understanding of customer needs, project objectives, and procurement requirements. Reporting to the Vice President, Pre-Construction Sales, this role will support the development and execution of pre-construction sales strategies for the Fero brand, using customer insights, market awareness, and construction industry knowledge to identify, qualify, and pursue opportunities. This position will manage the pre-construction sales process from lead generation and opportunity assessment through proposal development, submission, and follow-up, while collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams to deliver high-quality pursuit packages. The successful candidate will bring strong technical acumen, commercial awareness, attention to detail, and people leadership skills to help grow the customer base, achieve sales targets, and support the development of a high-performing team.
Key Accountabilities
Lead and manage pre-construction sales pursuits from opportunity identification through proposal submission, negotiation support, and handoff to execution teams, ensuring alignment with Fero’s sales objectives, brand positioning, and commercial priorities.
Support the development and implementation of sales plans and pursuit strategies that contribute to increased brand awareness, market share, pipeline growth, and achievement of agreed sales targets.
Partner with Business Development to support strategic account development, market expansion efforts, and client engagement activities, contributing pre-construction expertise to strengthen pursuit opportunities and advance the sales pipeline.
Maintain a strong understanding of target market drivers, customer needs, procurement trends, competitive activity, and sales data to identify opportunities, inform pursuit strategy, and support business growth.
Build, foster, and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, construction partners, internal stakeholders, and key decision-makers to support customer satisfaction, repeat business, and long-term strategic partnerships.
Coordinate and lead cross-functional pursuit teams, including estimating, scheduling, design, procurement, finance, marketing, project delivery, and external partners, to develop complete, competitive, and high-quality submissions.
Oversee pursuit-specific working groups and ensure clear roles, timelines, deliverables, approvals, and bid requirements are understood and met throughout the proposal process.
Review and assess inbound proposal requests, pre-qualification requirements, procurement documents, drawings, specifications, risks, schedules, and commercial terms to determine fit, competitiveness, and recommended pursuit approach.
Manage the preparation, review, and submission of technical and commercial proposal packages, ensuring accuracy, completeness, quality, competitiveness, and adherence to client and procurement requirements.
Coach, guide, and support team members involved in pre-construction sales activities by setting expectations, removing barriers, supporting development, and promoting accountability for high-quality outcomes.
Represent Fero at client meetings, industry events, conferences, trade shows, factory tours, and presentations to promote brand awareness, build relationships, and identify new business opportunities.
Perform other related duties as assigned to meet business objectives.
Qualifications
7+ years of progressive experience in sales, pre-construction, business development, estimating, or a related commercial role within the construction industry, with demonstrated experience supporting or leading complex pursuits.
Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and industry experience.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to sales plans, pursuit strategies, and business development activities that are aligned with business goals, customer needs, and company culture.
Experience developing, coordinating, and managing bid proposals, pre-qualification submissions, presentations, and commercial pursuit packages; modular or industrialized construction experience is considered an asset.
Strong working knowledge of construction processes, estimating, drawings, technical specifications, procurement requirements, trade agreements, scheduling, cost control, and project risk management.
Knowledge of the construction industry landscape, including customer drivers, procurement trends, competitive market dynamics, and factors influencing project award decisions.
Proven ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, commercial terms, and applicable building codes with accuracy and sound judgement.
Experience managing and winning large-scale pursuits, including opportunities valued at $5M or greater, with the ability to balance customer requirements, risk, pricing, schedule, and competitiveness.
Demonstrated people leadership capability, including the ability to coach, guide, influence, and hold others accountable while building collaborative, high-performing teams.
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, construction partners, internal teams, and all levels of management.
Influential and trusted partner who can present ideas, support recommendations with data and market insight, manage competing priorities, and build alignment across cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills, including presentation, written, verbal, negotiation, and client-facing communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and business acumen, with the ability to interpret sales data, pipeline activity, market trends, forecasts, and pursuit performance to support decision-making.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project; experience with Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam.
Understanding of CCDC documents, contract terms, and construction procurement processes is considered an asset.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple concurrent pursuits, meet tight deadlines, and travel or work evenings and weekends as required.
