Job Description
AECOM's Environment Team is actively seeking an Entry-level Environmental Planner with experience and/or interest in Class Environmental Assessments (EAs), Individual EAs, the Transit and Rail Project Assessment Process (TRPAP) and other types of work involving planning, preliminary design, detail design, permitting, alternative delivery, program management and more. Candidates will be involved in developing and executing engagement and consultation programs; coordinating environmental specialists; as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities. The candidate will provide advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies, as well as document the project process. We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidates that work collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.
This is a newly created position, with a target start date of May 2027.
Responsibilities: As part of our team, the successful applicant will assist in environmental management work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:
Working with and supporting Senior Environmental Planners and Project Managers in executing municipal, provincial, and Federal environmental assessments/impact assessments (planning, preliminary design, detail design, alternative delivery, program management projects) as well as other approval and permitting activities for infrastructure projects.
Developing and implementing consultation programs, including public, municipal, regulatory agency and Indigenous Community engagement and consultation.
Liaising with clients by phone, email, writing and in-person.
Liaising with local, provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
Coordinating, preparing for, attending, and documenting project meetings.
Being familiar with Fisheries Act, Species Conservation Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act, and other relevant legislation.
Researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing drafts of reports related to planning, design and permitting.
Participating in study administration through budgeting.
Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing and participation in industry associations.
Participating in and contributing to AECOM’s Technical Practice Groups.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
Class G driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of, the Ontario EA Act, TPAP, Municipal and Ministry of Transportation Class EAs, and other legislation related to the position (e.g., Fisheries Act, Species Conservation Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act, and their regulations).
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with proven success in engagement and negotiation.
Demonstrated experience managing schedule, budget and quality on projects or assignments. Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well with people.
Interest in or have Full or Provisional membership in a professional body (e.g., Registered Professional Planner (RPP and MCIP); Canadian Environmental Professional (EP); or Project Management Professional (PMP)).
Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
