Job title: Global Lead, Medical Intelligence to Strategy
Location: Cambridge, MA, Morristown, NJ
About the Job
At Sanofi, we chase the miracles of science to improve people's lives. We are accelerating Sanofi's modernization journey, supporting our Take the Lead strategy to become more focused, integrated, agile, and efficient. The current wave of digital technologies — including artificial intelligence (AI), Generative AI, and predictive analytics — offers extraordinary opportunities to transform the future of Medical Affairs by pioneering data-driven capabilities that shift how we generate, interpret, and act on scientific and medical intelligence.
Within the Medical Strategy, Transformation and Excellence team, the Medical Innovation function serves as the enterprise incubator for high-impact innovation across Medical Affairs. The team operates at the intersection of medical science, data, and digital technology — building future-state capabilities, testing breakthrough solutions, and partnering with GBUs and Digital teams to ensure innovation creates measurable impact for patients and the business.
The Global Lead, Medical Intelligence to Strategy is the analytical and strategic engine of the Medical Innovation organization. This role is built to architect the fundamental shift from retrospective data reporting to forward-looking, predictive medical intelligence — owning the Medical Care Gaps framework, driving the data strategy for Medical Affairs, and building predictive analytics capabilities (including Medical Plai) that empower evidence-based decision-making across Medical GBUs. Operating within the Medical Innovation incubator model, this leader identifies, use cases, and defines KPI frameworks for next-generation medical intelligence tools before handing off scaled solutions to operational pillars.
Join the engine of Sanofi’s mission — where deep immunoscience meets bold, AI-powered research. In R&D, you’ll drive breakthroughs that could turn the impossible into possible for millions.
About Sanofi
We’re an R&D-driven, AI-powered biopharma company committed to improving people’s lives and delivering compelling growth. Our deep understanding of the immune system – and innovative pipeline – enables us to invent medicines and vaccines that treat and protect millions of people around the world. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.
Main responsibilities:
Strategic Medical Intelligence & Data Leadership:
Define and own the Medical Intelligence roadmap, shifting Medical Affairs from "reporting data" to "predictive strategy" — forecasting medical trends, anticipating unmet needs, and enabling forward-looking decision-making across GBUs.
Build and lead the Data Strategy framework that connects clinical evidence, real-world data, field insights, and digital health data streams into a unified, actionable intelligence layer for Medical Affairs.
Champion Medical Plai and other predictive analytics platforms, overseeing their design, testing, and integration into Medical Affairs planning and decision-making workflows.
Own and evolve the Medical Care Gaps identification and analysis framework, ensuring it drives meaningful prioritization across GBU Medical strategies and evidence generation plans.
Lead the development and optimization of MedIS (Medical Insights Engine) capabilities to ensure data accessibility, quality, and strategic utility across the Medical Innovation ecosystem.
Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for Medical data and analytics capabilities, aligned with GBU priorities and the broader Medical Innovation agenda.
Innovation Incubation, Test & learn:
Function as the primary incubator for medical intelligence innovations — scout emerging data science and AI/ML capabilities, test use cases in partnership with Digital, and define rigorous success metrics before recommending enterprise-wide scaling.
Collaborate with the Global Head of Medical Innovation and Digital Partners to select and validate AI/ML use cases relevant to medical intelligence and predictive analytics.
Design proof-of-concept initiatives for new intelligence tools, establishing KPI frameworks and governance checkpoints before transition to operational teams.
Partner with peer Global Leads (Scientific Platforms, Health Ecosystem, Innovation Expansion) to ensure medical intelligence insights feed into and enrich all innovation initiatives across the team.
Integrate Medical Intelligence outputs into core Medical processes including Medical Planning cycles, Care Gap prioritization, and evidence generation strategies.
Stakeholder & GBU Partnership:
Serve as the embedded intelligence partner to Medical GBUs, spending meaningful time within GBU leadership meetings to ensure pull-through of predictive analytics capabilities and alignment on data priorities.
Translate complex data science and predictive analytics concepts into clear, actionable strategic narratives for senior Medical, Commercial, and Digital leadership.
Represent the Medical Intelligence function in the Medical Innovation Council, contributing to DAI (Decide, Advise, Inform) governance decisions on AI use cases, data platforms, and analytics investments.
Champion a data-literate culture within Medical Affairs, making technical concepts accessible and inspiring non-technical medical stakeholders to embrace intelligence-driven ways of working.
Collaborate with Digital AI teams to ensure data architecture and vendor builds align with medical intelligence use case requirements.
Governance & Compliance:
Ensure all data strategies, predictive models, and intelligence platforms comply with relevant healthcare regulations, data privacy standards and ethical AI principles.
Develop and maintain governance frameworks for data use, model validation, algorithmic transparency, and quality benchmarking within medical intelligence initiatives.
Stay current on evolving regulations and industry standards related to AI, real-world data use, and data governance in pharmaceutical and healthcare context.
About You
10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Data Strategy, Real-World Evidence, Healthcare Analytics, or a related field within a pharmaceutical or healthcare organization.
Advanced scientific, medical, or quantitative degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or Master's in Data Science, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience with AI/ML applications in healthcare, including predictive analytics, natural language processing (NLP), or real-world evidence platforms.
Proven track record of designing or leading data strategy or medical intelligence programs in global, matrixed environments.
Experience with Medical Information Systems and/or pharmaceutical data platforms strongly preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to present complex analytical concepts clearly to non-technical medical and business audiences.
Leadership & Skills:
Analytical leader with the ability to build strategic narratives from complex, multi-source data environments — translating data science outputs into clinical and commercial strategy without relying on technical jargon.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment on data strategy without direct authority, building credibility with both Medical and Digital stakeholders.
Strong program management skills with experience leading global analytics or data strategy initiatives in matrixed environments
Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical data ecosystem, including real-world evidence, claims data, EHR integration, and digital health data streams.
Passion for innovation at the intersection of data science, medical strategy, and digital transformation — with a demonstrated track record of turning insights into action.
Executive Competencies:
Strategic Foresight: Anticipates shifts in the data and AI landscape and proactively positions Medical Affairs capabilities to act ahead of emerging trends and unmet needs.
Analytical Storytelling: Converts complex, multi-source data analysis into compelling, executive-ready insights and strategic recommendations that resonate with Medical and Commercial leadership.
GBU Partnership: Operates as a trusted strategic advisor, balancing enterprise innovation priorities with GBU-specific operational needs and translating intelligence into actionable medical strategy.
Change Leadership: Drives cultural transformation from data-reporting to predictive intelligence within Medical Affairs, inspiring adoption of new analytical tools and ways of working.
Collaborative Execution: Works effectively within a matrixed environment, aligning across Digital, GBU, and peer innovation pillars to deliver integrated, high-impact outcomes.
Travel Requirements:
This global role requires approximately 20–25% travel to collaborate with GBU teams, Digital partners, and external stakeholders
