Join Our Mission
The Director of Grant Development plays a pivotal role in securing the financial resources that sustain and grow Handy's programs for the youth and families we serve. This position is responsible for identifying, writing, cultivating, and managing institutional funding opportunities across foundation, corporate, and government sources.
The ideal candidate is a persuasive communicator and strategic thinker who can craft compelling proposals, build enduring funder relationships, and ensure accurate compliance and timely reporting. Working closely with the Program, Finance, and Leadership teams, the Director ensures that every grant-related effort advances Handy's mission, vision, and long-term goals. From developing proposals and budgets, to coordinating information across program managers, to managing reporting requirements and funder relationships throughout the life of each award.
Location and Schedule:
This position is based in our Wilton Manors, FL office. A hybrid work schedule may be considered upon successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
What You'll Do
Grant Strategy & Pipeline Development
Build and manage a comprehensive grant pipeline spanning foundation, corporate, and government sources.
Identify new funding opportunities aligned with each program's needs and growth strategy.
Develop annual and multi-year grant strategies in partnership with leadership.
Maintain a grants calendar tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewal timelines.
Monitor funding trends and proactively pursue new sources of institutional support.
Proposal Development & Submission
Research, write, and submit high-quality letters of inquiry, proposals, and applications in accordance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
Translate programmatic work into clear, data-driven narratives and compelling impact stories.
Collaborate with program leaders to gather outcomes, budgets, and supporting data.
Ensure all submissions are accurate, complete, and aligned with funder priorities.
Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and submit timely programmatic and financial grant reports.
Track outcomes and ensure ongoing compliance with all funder requirements.
Partner with finance and program teams to align reporting data and budgets.
Maintain detailed, well-organized documentation of all grant activity.
Data & Tracking
Utilize CRM and database tools to track relevant grant data and activity.
Support database functions across development areas.
Serve as backup to the database team on donor and grant processing.
Funder Relationship Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional funders.
Coordinate site visits, tours, and funder engagement opportunities.
Develop stewardship strategies that support renewals and long-term partnerships.
Collaborate with leadership on strategic funder communications, and manage any grant-related issues directly with the funder.
Internal Collaboration
Partner with program leaders across Workforce, Housing, Education, Mental Health, and Youth Development.
Support cross-program funding opportunities and integrated proposals.
Lead internal grant strategy meetings and coordinate multi-faceted applications across departments.
Align grant strategy with broader development and organizational goals.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support agency operations.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of four years of successful grant writing and grant management experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Experience interpreting program data and communicating measurable impact.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor management systems/CRMs.
