About Johnson Controls
Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.
For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customerperformance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.

What You’ll Do
Thermal constraints limit AI infrastructure, semiconductor equipment, power electronics, and defense systems. JCI removes those constraints. Enabled by the Stack Forging™ process, JCI produces high-performance thermal components and cooling loop solutions — purpose-built for direct integration into AI, HPC, and mission-critical systems. Founded in 2020, JCI has built the industry's leading thermal management platform for the applications that demand it most.
As a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls, you'll join a team of sleeve-rollers who set a high bar for themselves and their co-workers. We foster a collaborative culture with no silos, where everyone is encouraged to think out loud. If you are passionate about your craft and don't give up until you've found a way, you will make an ideal Builder!
As a Thermal Architect at JCI, you will be a technical leader for thermal management, serving as a critical link between our customers' most complex challenges and our core products. You are a thermal expert who thrives on architecting cutting-edge, system-level solutions and translating them into manufacturable realities. You will be responsible for driving technical strategy from initial feasibility and concept development through to successful implementation, working with cross-functional teams, and ensuring our solutions deliver unparalleled performance.
Who You Are The ideal candidate has a deep background in thermal management and fluid dynamics and a proven track record of leading advanced product and engineering efforts. This position is based onsite in Burlington, MA (Boston area). Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.
How you will do it
Lead the development and validation of next-generation thermal-fluid architectures,
pushing the boundaries of our core technology and mapping capabilities to customer
needs.
Perform analysis and feasibility assessments to validate novel concepts and quantify
performance benefits for customer applications.
Technical Leadership & Execution
Evaluate customer requirements against JCI technologies to define new thermal
solutions.
Assess technical trade-offs and risk mitigation strategies to ensure solutions are
delivered on time and meet performance and reliability standards.
What you will need Required
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a
related field with a focus on thermal-fluid sciences.
7–10 years of industry experience
Demonstrable expertise in thermal management and liquid cooling, preferably with
experience in data centers or high-performance computing.
Demonstrated ability to architect technical solutions and lead advanced engineering
projects from concept to completion.
Preferred
Ability to align technical development with strategic business priorities.
A background in customer-facing fields, such as a Solutions Engineer, technical fellow,
or Applications Engineer.
Experience in a manufacturing and emerging technology setting.
Expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) principles, especially related to metal
components or thermal systems.
Familiarity with thermal simulation software (e.g., CFD) and analytical modeling
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $120,000 - $160,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
