The LIS / Beaker Supervisor provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the Epic Beaker (Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology) application teams, overseeing the planning, design, implementation, optimization, maintenance, and support of the Beaker laboratory information systems. This role partners closely with Laboratory, Pathology, Clinical Operations, IT leadership, Epic application teams, vendors, and third-party interface partners to translate clinical and operational requirements into scalable, compliant, and efficient technology solutions that improve laboratory quality, workflow efficiency, patient safety, and end-user satisfaction.
The LIS / Beaker Supervisor serves as the organization's subject matter expert for Epic Beaker, providing leadership for application governance, system lifecycle management, release planning, change control, production support, issue escalation, and continuous process improvement. The role oversees complex system integrations, testing, upgrades, regulatory readiness, and application performance while ensuring adherence to organizational standards, Epic best practices, accreditation requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
In addition to technical leadership, the LIS / Beaker Supervisor is responsible for managing and developing a high-performing team of Beaker analysts through performance management, workforce planning, scheduling, coaching, mentoring, resource allocation, and professional development. The Supervisor establishes team priorities, monitors service levels and operational metrics, promotes cross-training and knowledge sharing, and fosters strong partnerships with operational stakeholders to ensure reliable 24x7 application support and the successful delivery of strategic initiatives across the laboratory enterprise.
The LIS / Beaker Supervisor must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience designing, building, implementing, and supporting Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) applications in an acute care hospital or integrated health system environment, including at least three (3) years of experience supervising technical staff and/or leading complex enterprise healthcare IT initiatives.
Prior experience at UCSF Health, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, or another academic medical center is strongly preferred.
Epic certification (or equivalent demonstrated experience) in one or more of the following applications is required:
Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP)
Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP)
