Under the supervision of the Senior Director for the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, the Associate Director for the Office of Marriage and Family seeks to engage in the Lord's mission to evangelize and catechize the faithful in the areas of Marriage Preparation, Marriage Enrichment, Marriage as a second catechumenate, and whole family evangelization and catechesis. The Associate Director will provide training, resources, assistance, and collaboration to clergy, parishes, and lay leaders who are seeking to evangelize, catechize, and form all who are called to the vocation of the sacrament of marriage, strengthening marriages and the family.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Oversee, direct, and execute the Diocese of Columbus mandatory Marriage Preparation Process.
Build relationships with clergy and parish staff and support them with all aspects of marriage formation.
Research and remain informed on best practices and programs for marriage formation, as well as what is being done throughout the Diocese.
Train clergy and parish staff in Marriage Preparation in the areas of Theology of the Body, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, application of Pre-Marital Inventories for engaged couples, Sponsor Couple formation, Natural Family Planning, marriage enrichment, divorce and remarriage ministry, grief support, and loss of a spouse.
Train and offer ongoing formation, support, and encouragement for the parish marriage preparation teams.
Assist parishes in onboarding and implementing approved Marriage formation resources, e.g., Diocesan Pre-Cana process, Fully Engaged, NFP, Theology of the Body Institute, Ruah Woods.
Support those who lead marriage formation for Hispanic couples in their ministry.
Assist independent ministries and apostolates as appropriate, such as Engaged Encounter.
Promote and offer opportunities for marriage formation for children, teens, and young adults in an age-appropriate way.
Create resources for marriage ministry through various social media channels, e.g., X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Present at marriage events, parishes, or on the radio as needed.
Represent the Office of Evangelization at local, regional, and national events.
Collaborate on other Marriage and Family Life Office projects.

Oversee and Direct the Office of Evangelization Diocesan Evangelization Summit
Oversee and execute all Office of Evangelization and Catechesis communications.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Evangelization, Family Studies, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of five to seven years of prior ministry experience in a parish or diocesan setting is preferred; bilingual is a plus.
Qualifications for the Position & Job-Related Skills:
Deep abiding personal faith in Jesus Christ and love for people
Has the passion, understanding, and ability to articulate the teachings of the Catholic Church on the Sacrament of Marriage as articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, and all related Magisterial documents on Marriage and Family, e.g. Familiaris Consortio, Veritatis Splendor, and the Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality.
Excellent oral and written communication ability, including listening skills.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with various age groups and diverse cultures.
Proven management skills and the ability to train others.
Proven ability to respond to and take direction from their immediate Supervisor.
Takes initiative and exhibits creativity, responsibility, and flexibility.
Maintains organization, can track numerous projects/people, multitasks, and establishes priorities.
Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality when necessary.
Proficiency with all basic office equipment, including Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel), as well as the ability to use audio/visual equipment.
Ability to lift and transport heavy objects regularly.
Working Environment:
Work is performed both in an office setting and in meetings. Evening and weekend work is essential, and occasional travel is required. The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.
The job offer is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of a mandatory background screening, the completion of the “Protecting God’s Children” course, and reference checks. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits are according to Diocesan policy.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and ability. We offer paid time off and a full complement of benefits, including health, dental, vision, life, short & long-term disability, and matching 403(b). Benefits are in accordance with Diocesan policy.
