BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The WFP Egypt Corridor serves as a supply route facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and Sudan amid conflicts. The corridor operates through storage hubs in Cairo and Port Said. For Gaza, shipments primarily cross via Rafah and are sometimes staged through Al Arish, while for Sudan, cargo moves through the Argeen border crossing.

Its functions include procurement and storage to ensure commodities are available, safe, and ready for dispatch; transport and border coordination to manage inland transport, customs, and cross-border clearance; monitoring and accountability to track every shipment and ensure proper use of resources; and quality control and disposal to maintain standards and safely remove expired or damaged goods.

Strategically, the Egypt Corridor supports large-scale humanitarian operations in regions with limited access, coordinates with multiple stakeholders including local authorities, humanitarian partners, and WFP offices in Palestine and Sudan, and acts as a central hub for operational planning, reporting, and logistics support.

The incumbent will monitor and track cargo movements, proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, and maintain accurate transport documentation to ensure accountability and traceability. The role also involves planning transport schedules to optimize the use of resources, while coordinating with partners, including local authorities and humanitarian organizations, to facilitate smooth cross-border operations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will coordinate WFP’s food operations in Egypt with responsibilities including but not limited to:

• Planning and supervising shipments to ensure products are moved efficiently and safely from suppliers and warehouses to crossing points and Country Offices.
• Scheduling daily and weekly transportation routes to guarantee delivery of humanitarian assistance.
• Tracking orders using systems and tracking software to monitor shipments and ensure timely delivery.
• Coordinating with warehouse staff to ensure proper availability and dispatch of commodities.
• Monitoring transportation costs to stay within budget and improve cost efficiency.
• Ensuring compliance with WFP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), customs regulations, shipping regulations, and safety standards.
• Maintaining detailed records completed dispatches for accountability and reporting.
• Organizing and delivering training sessions for transport staff on WFP procedures.
• Supporting risk management and contingency planning to address potential disruptions.
• Participating in operational coordination meetings and providing recommendations for process improvements.
• Performing any other Supply Chain-related activities as requested by the Head of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

First University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related demonstrated professional work experience and understanding of relevant functions.

Experience:

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Logistics / Supply Chain.

Knowledge & Skills:

Experience in coordinating logistics operations in an emergency context.

Experience in administering third party service providers’ contracts.

Experience in working with various logistics service providers.

Good communication and negotiation skills.

Good excel and system skills.

Languages:

Fluency in oral and written communication in English.
