We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of VP, Data Quality and Governance

Purpose

• Controllership is an expert function, that exists to deliver trust in the numbers that it is the custodian of, providing both insight and running controls and processes, enabling the business to grow and succeed safely.  Controllership instils credibility with our regulators and drives understanding of HSBC’s businesses. The Product Control (PC) function is an integral part of Controllership and provides independent control and assurance, product expertise, commercial insight and guidance to all businesses involved in trading activities throughout HSBC.  We also partner the business to achieve sustainable financial performance.
• The Governance and Control team is accountable for driving governance and control activities primarily across Valuations, while also supporting the P&L (Profile and Loss), Accounting and Treasury control pillars. The team ensures the principles, frameworks and processes underpinning the accuracy of HSBC’s traded product financial statements across the Group remain robust, resilient and compliant with internal standards and external regulatory requirements. It also promotes a high standard control environment by providing clear visibility of control performance and timely communication and escalation of control changes, weaknesses and breaches of risk appetite, with appropriate remediation tracked to closure.

In this role, you will:

• Own and drive governance reporting for the key committees - Valuation Control Committee and Product Control Non-Financial Risk, providing insightful analysis, clear executive commentary, a focused view of emerging risks and required decisions/actions.
• Lead end to end delivery of annual governance and control exercises, including methodology review, stakeholder engagement, challenge and analysis of results and senior management ready outputs. Example exercises include Vendor Pricing Sources Review and Risk Factor Completeness Review.
• Own, maintain, and enhance core governance trackers and MI (e.g. overdue items, initiative actions, data quality items), ensuring data integrity and timely escalation of breaches.
• Coordinate stakeholder responses for governance/control initiatives; challenge inputs where appropriate, analyse themes, and present clear conclusions, risks, and recommended actions.
• Provide ad hoc support to change initiatives/projects impacting Product Control governance and reporting (e.g., process redesign, tooling, control enhancements), including requirements input, UAT (User acceptance testing), and implementation readiness, as capacity allows.
• Identify and deliver process improvements (including automation/AI where suitable) to reduce operational risk, improve control effectiveness, and shorten cycle times; track and report realised benefits.
• Act as the primary India point of contact for BAU (Business as usual) queries, triaging requests, managing priorities, and ensuring timely turnaround with appropriate escalation. Partner with Global & Regional counterparts to provide transparent status updates, clear hand-offs and proactive communication of risks, issues, and dependencies
• Line-manage and develop a local team (1–2 colleagues), allocating work, coaching on quality standards, and ensuring effective coverage and continuity. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across and outside Product Control (e.g. Finance NFR, Internal Audit), supporting effective governance outcomes.
• Ensure adherence to control standards, audit readiness, and timely closure of findings/actions.Sets clear direction and quality standards, coaching colleagues and supporting their development. Builds strong cross-location partnerships, communicating proactively and collaborating to resolve issues and deliver shared outcomes

To be successful you will:

• Post Graduate Qualification (ACA, MBA Finance, CFA or equivalent ) is considered beneficial with 7 yrs of relevant experience in Non Financial Risk (NFR), Product Control, Product Valuation
• Proven knowledge of risk and control frameworks and governance routines; able to identify, assess, and escalate issues with appropriate remediation.
• Strong analytical capability (quantitative and qualitative), including root-cause investigation, trend analysis, and clear synthesis of insights for senior stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce concise executive commentary and influence stakeholders across locations
• Sound judgement and structured problem-solving, able to think laterally and balance control discipline with pragmatic delivery.
• Strong delivery focus with the ability to manage competing priorities, work to tight deadlines, and maintain quality under pressure.
• Product Control/Valuation Control experience preferred (or broader Finance Control/Reporting experience); knowledge of markets products and valuation concepts is beneficial.
