About the role:
We are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Engineer to manage and grow strategic key accounts while developing new business opportunities within New Zealand’s industrial and utility sectors. This role will be approximately 60–70% focused on key account management and 30–40% on new business development.
Key Responsibilities
Key Account Management
Serve as the primary contact for 10–15 major accounts, driving retention and year-on-year revenue growth.
Conduct quarterly business reviews, identify improvement opportunities, and position long-term partnership value.
Promote cross-sell and up-sell opportunities, aiming for at least two incremental solution wins per quarter.
Maintain CRM data integrity, updating forecasts and account plans weekly for clear pipeline visibility.
Coordinate delivery with engineering, commercial, and supply chain teams to ensure timely, on-budget project completion.
Monitor customer satisfaction, proactively addressing issues to maintain a 90%+ satisfaction rate.
New Business Development
Identify and qualify 5–10 new accounts per quarter within targeted industrial and utility sectors.
Engage prospective customers through tailored presentations, product demos, and proposals, targeting 2–3 new engagements monthly.
Represent the company at industry events, generating at least 20 qualified leads per event.
Provide monthly market intelligence on competitors, customer trends, and sector developments to inform strategy.
About you:
A proactive, commercially savvy professional with experience in sales, business development, or account management within industrial or technical environments. You possess strong relationship-building skills and are disciplined in CRM usage to deliver accurate sales forecasts and pipeline management. Your solid understanding of industrial automation enables you to translate technical solutions into clear business value.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven sales and commercial acumen with consistent achievement of revenue targets.
Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce, Dynamics, or equivalent).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build trust with senior decision-makers.
Working knowledge of industrial automation, control systems, or related technical fields.
Familiarity with New Zealand industrial sectors, procurement processes, and customer landscapes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in solution selling with complex technical solutions and long sales cycles.
Understanding of contracts, pricing, and margin management.
Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, commercial, and supply chain teams.
Established industry network within NZ or the Pacific region.
Nice to Have
Experience representing companies at industry events or technical seminars.
Degree or diploma in Engineering, Business, or related discipline.
Sales methodology training or technical certifications.
