He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:

 

As Senior Procurement Specialist within Group Procurement, you will provide expert procurement leadership across KiwiRail, with a strong focus on ICT. Based in Auckland, this permanent role supports end-to-end sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract management and strategic procurement advice. You will work closely with stakeholders, legal teams and the IT Procurement Manager to deliver compliant, value-for-money procurement outcomes aligned with KiwiRail’s Procurement Strategy, Government Procurement Rules and sustainable procurement objectives.

 

Accountabilities include:

 

Within the ICT category:

  • Lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including market engagement, RFP development, evaluation, negotiation, approvals and contract finalisation.
  • Prepare procurement plans, recommendations, business documentation and procurement inputs into business cases.
  • Provide commercial and procurement advice to stakeholders, with a focus on total cost of ownership, risk, value and compliance.
  • Negotiate supplier arrangements and support contract drafting, variations, KPIs and risk management clauses and be able work with legal.
  • Manage supplier relationships to improve performance, value, delivery confidence and alignment with KiwiRail objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with Government Procurement Rules, KiwiRail policies, approval requirements and sustainable procurement practices.
  • Identify supplier, contractual and commercial risks and work with stakeholders to develop practical mitigation plans.

Knowledge and experience

  • You have 10+ years of commercial and technical experience with some parts in a medium to large organisation.
  • You’re skilled in business data and contemporary procurement practices.
  • You can analyse complex data, develop models, and present insights clearly.
  • You have strong experience in IT contracts, contract drafting, negotiation, and vendor management.
  • You understand procurement risk, sustainability, and government procurement rules.
