About Halter
At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.
Ever dream about being in tech but aren’t quite ready to trade in your cowboy boots? Look no further. We’re looking for a motivated, high performing Fleet Operations Technician to join our growing team and oversee the maintenance of Halter’s infrastructure in the USA.
Halter has real momentum in the USA. We’ve got ranchers who rely on us every day, a team on the ground, and a proven product. But we’re still early in this market, and there’s a lot of building still to do. You’ll play a key role in shaping how we operate here, building an efficient operational system, and resolving the market-specific challenges that come with scaling across a country this size.
This position requires versatility and adaptability. One moment you’re repairing and upgrading infrastructure, the next you’re delivering towers and collars to a new ranch. You’ll be the go-to person, responsible for making sure tasks get done efficiently and effectively for an unmatched customer experience.
You’ll work closely with a dedicated team both in the USA and at Halter’s Auckland HQ, ensuring a collaborative and rewarding work environment.
What your day could look like:
Infrastructure maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of Halter’s infrastructure to ensure seamless operations.
Hardware diagnosis: Diagnose any issues with our hardware and feed this information back to the relevant team.
Versatility: Move smoothly between tasks, from repairing and upgrading infrastructure to delivering towers and collars as needed.
Deployment support: Provide critical on-site support during ranch deployments, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring successful installations.
On-call: Be part of the global on-call roster to support tower-related incidents and proactively find solutions in a timely manner.
Collaboration: Work closely with the team both in the USA and at Halter’s Auckland HQ to ensure alignment and successful customer outcomes.
Problem-solving: Address and resolve technical challenges promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to ranch operations.
Adaptability: Be prepared to manage a variety of tasks, often simultaneously, to meet the dynamic needs of the role.
Data analysis: Collect, interpret, and analyze data from our hardware to optimize processes and inform decision-making. You’ll extract actionable insights that improve operational efficiency and help resolve issues proactively.
Build scalable systems: Help develop and manage a maintenance system for the USA market. We’re not starting from zero, but there’s plenty of room to build something more scalable.
Travel: With customers based across the USA, you’ll be required to travel frequently.
Who we're looking for:
Hands-on experience: Practical, hands-on experience with tools, electrical work, construction, networking, or equipment fitting is a must.
Go-getter attitude: A proactive approach, with a willingness to tackle challenges head-on and figure things out on the go.
Handiness: Practical skills and resourcefulness, with the ability to handle a wide range of tasks even without specific technical training.
Time management: Ability to manage your own time so that tasks are completed on schedule.
Team-oriented approach: Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different locations.
Commitment to excellence: A dedication to providing the highest quality service, ensuring that Halter’s infrastructure is always operating at its best.
Willingness to travel: Spontaneous and planned travel will be part of this role. You might be 3 or 4 days on the road per week, and 3 nights away from home per week.
Bonus qualifications (not mandatory to apply)
Agriculture experience. While not mandatory, experience in the agriculture sector would be highly beneficial.
Our Benefits:
Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): Own a part of Halter and share in our growth and success
Unlimited PTO: Take time off when you need it—no accrual required, available from day one
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) & paid wellness leave: Access confidential support through JustWorks plus 3 paid wellness days per year
Comprehensive health benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting the first day of the month after you join (with most premiums covered, including 100% of employee-only health premiums on select plans)
Personal growth fund: $750 USD per year to support learning, development, or personal growth goals
Parental leave: 16 weeks paid leave for birthing parents and 8 weeks paid leave for non-birthing parents
401(k): 100% match on the first 3% contributed, plus 50% match on the next 2% (up to a 4% employer match), with immediate vesting
Onboarding travel to New Zealand: Fly to NZ for onboarding at Halter HQ in Auckland—meet the team, visit a test farm, and immerse yourself in all things Halter
