Summary:
Reporting to the director, student health and wellbeing, the staff psychologist provides direct psychological services to university students in the department. This position contributes to the supervision and training of clinical psychology trainees through a shared supervision model involving psychologists and other qualified clinical supervisors within the department The psychologist maintains an active clinical caseload and provides assessment, intervention, psychotherapy, crisis response, consultation, and referral services to students, including individuals presenting with complex mental health concerns or an elevated risk of harm to themselves or others. This role contributes to the shared objectives of the department and the university psychology program, including training expectations influenced by Canadian Psychological Association accreditation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Delivers psychotherapy, assessment, and intervention services to clients across individual, couple, and group formats.
Maintains an active direct-service caseload while fulfilling assigned supervision, training, and consultation responsibilities.
Provides effective clinical supervision to trainees working with diverse populations and a broad range of presenting concerns.
Evaluates student performance and contributes to training development and feedback.
Conducts urgent risk assessments and develops crisis management plans for students in distress.
Prepares and maintains accurate clinical documentation and service records.
Supports adherence of clinic practices to provincial and national professional standards.
Meets program goals within the department in collaboration with team members.
Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.
Qualifications:
A master's degree in psychology; a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) is preferred.
Registration or eligibility for registration with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists.
Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE) with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists.
Completion of a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) accredited predoctoral internship or residency is preferred.
Minimum of five years of experience practicing as a registered psychologist.
Experience providing clinical supervision and formal training in supervision practices, including experience in crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment.
Post-graduate experience in psychological assessment and psychotherapy.
Expertise in clinical assessment, psychopathology, and treatment planning.
Knowledge of student development, multicultural issues, and diversity in clinical practice.
Familiarity with local community and university mental health resources is an asset.
Strong clinical supervision capability across diverse populations and presenting issues.
Advanced psychotherapy skills, particularly in brief treatment for young adults.
Ability to assess risk related to self-harm and harm to others.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and discretion in client interactions.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team.
