The Recreation Therapist implements evidence-based interventions to rehabilitate cognitive, emotional, and social functioning for adolescents and adults. They are responsible for performing clinical assessments and maintaining detailed administrative documentation for the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least one year of recreation therapy experience. Required certifications include CTRS from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation and a license from the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy.

Our 164-bed inpatient services for adolescents through senior adulthood offers comprehensive and individual assessments, psychiatric evaluation and medication stabilization, daily group therapy and personalized aftercare planning. We also offer a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program to ensure the continuum of care for our patients. Recreation Therapist
Schedules Needed:
FT - Thursday thru Monday 9am - 5:30pm
FT - Sunday thru Wednesday 9am - 5:30pm
We are currently seeking two full-time Recreation Therapists to join our talented and caring team. Our ideal candidates will possess strong multitasking skills, the ability to provide compassionate and competent care to a diverse patient population, must be able to build and maintain positive professional relationships with all hospital staff and patients, as well as demonstrate professional, effective communication skills.
Position Summary:
The Recreation Therapist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide therapeutic recreational and activity services to adolescents and adults under the care of Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services. Specific tasks include:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female adolescents and adults, as well as dually diagnosed adults. In absence of these qualifications upon hire, must demonstrate ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within reasonable time frame via the organization’s orientation and training program.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
Experience:
One year minimum recreation therapy experience. Previous experience in behavioral health field preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Current certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) and current license by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy (LRT).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform CPI physical, verbal and non-verbal techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending physicians, and other department representatives.
