Engineering, Mechanics & Infrastructure (EMI) applies engineering mechanics, materials science, numerical simulation, innovative technologies, and collective expertise to solve our clients’ toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures life-long learning and growth. A successful candidate for EMI may work on projects related to buildings, bridges, pipelines, nuclear facilities, tanks, rail vehicles, rotating equipment, precision observatory structures, bridges, and other non-building structures and systems. EMI’s special areas of expertise include failure analysis, wind effects, seismic analysis, soil-structure interaction, dynamic and blast response, structural plastics, composites, metallurgy, and corrosion analysis.
What You’ll Be Doing:
The Materials division of EMI provides services with emphasis on repair and rehabilitation of constructed works, and investigation and performance evaluation of a variety of structures and materials. Essential duties include performing a wide range of structural and materials engineering analysis and design tasks in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures; assisting senior staff in on-site investigations to document existing conditions and determine the root of problems; managing the preparation of drawings and specifications; and aiding senior staff during the construction administration phase of projects. A strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn are essential to this position.
Provide support in selecting materials for structural, mechanical, and building applications.
Conduct failure analysis of metals, concrete, polymers, composites, and other structural materials.
Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
Prepare and present reports and presentations to clients.
Manage and conduct laboratory tests and analyses.
Assist in preparing proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
What You’ll Need:
Education must have an emphasis on materials science, material engineering, structural engineering, or engineering mechanics.
0 to 5 years of experience in civil, structural, or materials engineering.
Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) registration within five years
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to travel and perform field inspections of structures under supervision.
Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Preferred - M.S. or greater in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Structural Engineering, or similar and background of academic excellence.

Compensation:
This compensation range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The pay range below is effective for 2026 and based on highest degree achieved. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and work location.
Bachelor’s Degree: $79,560 - $81,640
Master’s Degree: $83,200 - $85,280
Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
