The Public History Program at American University is seeking applications for a Public History Program Administrative Assistant for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Assistant in the Department of History and working closely with the Public History Program Director, the Administrative Assistant will play a key role in supporting the program’s operations, communications, and events.
Maintaining website content for Public History Program.
Managing the program’s social media channels.
Supporting Public History Committee meetings.
Updating alumni contact information.
Communicating with and meeting prospective students.
Assisting with planning and supporting program events, workshops, and activities.
Other duties and projects as assigned .
Part-time.
15 hours per week.
$20.00 per hour.
Candidates must be a current MA student enrolled at American University.
Ideal candidates will be professional, organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable interacting with students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Strong communication and administrative skills are preferred.
The Administrative Assistant will work fifteen hours per week over the fall and spring semesters (approximately 30 weeks total) and earn $20.00 per hour.
The hours are flexible during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM).
