About Sundial Media & Technology Group (SMTG)
Sundial Media & Technology Group (SMTG) is a human connections platform — the signal powered by culture, scaled by technology, and built for community. SMTG connects, elevates, and empowers the most influential consumer segment in the market: HER, the Chief Influence Officer. With over 100 years of community knowledge and insights, SMTG is redefining the media model into a next-generation platform. Powered by proprietary intelligence and AI technology, it activates an ecosystem that scales HER influence and economic power. Its portfolio includes some of the most iconic, purpose-driven brands and experiences shaping culture today — ESSENCE (Girls United, ESSENCE Studios, ESSENCE Festival of Culture®), Refinery29, AFROPUNK, Beautycon™ (including NaturallyCurly), the Global Black Economic Forum, the Academy for Advancing Excellence, and the New Voices Fund. Through storytelling, products, and platforms, SMTG delivers the tools and technology to shape the future of media, commerce, and community — on HER terms.
Role Overview
SMTG is looking for an experienced, organized and solutions-oriented Producer to develop and execute cross-platform content and production operations supporting ESSENCE, Refinery29, live experiences, branded content, social storytelling, and key company initiatives.
This role is designed for a producer who operates across content production and production operations—someone equally comfortable supporting creative development, managing productions, overseeing budgets and workflows, and contributing to scalable systems that support high-volume, fast-moving content demands.
The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, can manage multiple productions simultaneously, and brings operational rigor, strong communication, and creative problem-solving to every stage of the process. They should have experience supporting premium shoots, agile social-first productions, talent-driven content, branded partnerships, and live-event capture while maintaining excellence across timelines, budgets, logistics, and execution.
This person will partner closely with the VP of Video & Production, creative leadership, marketing, social, editorial, strategy, and external production partners to support an agile, efficient, and future-facing production operation capable of meeting the evolving needs of a modern media and culture company.
This will be a hybrid role based out of our Brooklyn, NY office: Tuesday–Thursday onsite, and Monday/Friday remote.
Responsibilities
Production & Operations
Manage end-to-end production across multiple concurrent projects spanning premium video, social content, branded campaigns, editorial storytelling, photography, and live-event coverage.
Function as a hands-on producer across projects of varying scale, complexity, and business need.
Support leadership in maintaining and improving production workflows, processes, timelines, and operational systems to improve team efficiency and executional consistency.
Manage production schedules, staffing plans, crews, vendors, production freelancers, budgets, logistics, call sheets, approvals, and delivery timelines across all stages of production.
Oversee shoots involving talent, partners, multiple stakeholders, and fast-turn deliverables with professionalism and composure.
Serve as a primary production contact between internal teams and external production partners, ensuring communication, accountability, and execution remain aligned.
Oversee post-production workflows including editing, color, sound, and finishing; provide written scripts and outlines where applicable.
Creative Development & Content Execution
Partner with creative, editorial, social, and strategy teams to help shape compelling, platform-native content concepts from development through execution.
Vet creative ideas for production feasibility, budget alignment, platform optimization, and operational scalability.
Manage production execution across a wide range of formats including social-first content, branded content, talent capture, interviews, event recaps, editorial storytelling, and franchise programming.
Collaborate with editors and post-production teams to ensure projects maintain strong creative integrity, pacing, storytelling, and platform relevance.
Ensure all deliverables align with brand standards, audience expectations, and evolving platform behaviors.
Support the ideation, development, and pitch process of new video series, formats, and one-off projects aligned with platform strategy across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and emerging channels in partnership with the Creative team.
Serve as a trusted production partner and key point of contact across internal stakeholders, creative teams, marketing, social, editorial, partnerships, and external clients.
Collaborate closely with strategy, sales, and partnerships teams to scope production needs, budgets, timelines, and creative approaches for custom content opportunities.
Source, manage, and maintain strong relationships with production companies, directors, photographers, editors, and freelance crews across a variety of production styles and scales.
Contribute to maintaining a scalable, flexible production partner ecosystem that supports both premium storytelling and rapid-turn content needs.
Brand & Client Partnership
Serve as a key in-house producer on priority brand accounts, ensuring excellence, continuity, and high standards across all deliverables.
Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external client teams; serve as a clear and confident point of contact throughout production.
Collaborate with pre-sale and strategy teams to scope, price, and package custom content for pitches and proposals.
Vendor & Network Management
Source, hire, and manage production companies, directors, photographers, and freelance crew across formats and styles.
Serve as the primary liaison between internal teams and external production partners.
Build and maintain a strong, diverse network of trusted production vendors; contribute to an internal repository of preferred partners.
Facilitate music licensing in collaboration with music supervisors when applicable.
What You Bring
4–6+ years of experience in content production, digital media, branded content, agency, publisher, or entertainment environments.
Proven experience producing across a range of formats including premium video, social-first storytelling, live-event capture, branded content, commercial shoots, and fast-turn digital content across multiple platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
Strong operational and production management skills with experience overseeing productions, budgets, timelines, staffing, and external vendors.
Experience managing projects from development through execution in hands-on production environments.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple productions and shifting priorities simultaneously.
Calm, collaborative working style with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Deep understanding of social platforms, digital storytelling, audience behavior, and platform-native production approaches.
Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments with high creative expectations and rapid turnaround timelines.
Strong foundation in analytics and a demonstrated ability to incorporate data into creative and workflow decisions.
Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed, occasionally with short notice.
Open to working extended hours and weekends when production demands require it.
What Success Looks Like
High-quality content delivered on time, on budget, and resonating with audiences across the SMTG brands.
Consistent production leadership across both internal teams and external partners.
Strong collaborative relationships across commercial, creative, strategy, and brand teams.
A growing and reliable network of production partners contributing to an efficient, scalable workflow.
Data-informed decisions that sharpen editorial output and platform performance over time.
