Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: To provide high quality programs and services to improve corporate and professional performance and personal growth. Responsible for planning, developing, marketing, managing and evaluating university continuing education programs and services. Work with academic departments to offer continuing education to SVSU alumni and others in professional areas SVSU supports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide vision and entrepreneurial leadership for continuing education initiatives.
Manage all aspects of SVSU’s professional development and general interest programs.
Become familiar with all guidelines of the National Resource Center for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and attend the annual Osher Conference.
Provide alignment between SVSU’s offerings and the goals of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
Develop and maintain relationships with corporate training decision makers.
Develop and implement an annual strategic plan.
Meet annual financial and performance goals.
Establish program-related partnerships and cooperative relationships with regional governmental, business and industrial, and professional organizations and groups.
Manage the departmental budget.
Manage departmental staff, including hiring instructors for professional and continuing education courses, unless an academic department has assumed responsibility for staffing.
Organize and manage volunteers interested in supporting OLLI. Including the
Work with Associate Director to Organize and facilitate local, regional, national, and international travel course opportunities.
Take the leading role in marketing programs to the widest possible audience.
Work collaboratively with OLLI staff to develop and coordinate three annual catalogs featuring a variety of classes and day trips.
Partner with other OLLI chapters throughout Michigan to plan and deliver collaborative educational programs and special events.
Closely manage the Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program at SVSU. Add PAMPCA workshops, SHRM, Ed2go and Ed4career
Attend the required yearly national conference for CPM programs and serve as SVSU’s designee and representative to National Certified Public Manager Consortium (NCPMC).
Coordinate OLLI activities with those of the SVSU Center for Community Engagement and Experiential Learning (CCEEL). If desired, take part in the university’s engagement with the Consortium of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU).
Participate in university related committee, events, and activities.
Develop creative approaches to providing needed continuing education and professional learning throughout the region.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Provost and VP for Academic and Student Affairs
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision is exercised over the Continuing Education and Osher Lifelong Learning personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
Valid Michigan driver’s license.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and passion for lifelong learning.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in continuing education program development and management.
Experience engaging and serving adults age 50 and above.
Planning, fiscal management, and supervisory experience.
Demonstrated success in marketing and sales of educational programs and services.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Knowledge of the evolving employment needs of the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Master’s degree or continued learning past the bachelor’s degree.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
