Wagstaff manufactures equipment for aluminum producers, who process formed aluminum into parts and products you use every day.
Pay: $120,000 - $170,000 per year, depending on experience
Manage the Automated Systems Engineering and Design Group (ASG Engineering). Ensure timeliness and quality of Electrical Engineering, Design and Programming services, to both internal and external customers. Perform in a production engineering role as schedule allows. Periodic international and domestic travel is required. The successful candidates will enjoy a challenging role with a wide variety of work responsibilities and many learning opportunities.
Primary Managerial Job Responsibilities
Direct the work of Automated Systems Group personnel including planning, scheduling and staffing
Measure performance of responsible teams with respect to meeting schedule and accuracy of work product
Train and lead responsible teams in problem solving and development of design and departmental processes
Lead departmental and inter-departmental product/process development teams to optimize deliverables to/from internal and external suppliers/customers
Organize and create departmental processes to:
Produce high-quality design output and minimize errors
Maintain project schedules
Minimize design process cycle time
Hire, train, coach, support, evaluate, and discipline assigned personnel
Employ leadership and communication skills in the resolution of critical issues
Complete employee performance evaluations, corrective action plans and other personnel documentation in accordance with company policies
Administer, and assure maintenance of, department-specific controlled documentation
Maintain department ISO Quality Standards and Procedures and assist in the resolution of quality concerns
Ensure compliance of engineering and design output with all applicable safety and regulatory standards
Work in a highly collaborative fashion with the Technical Service and R&D Automation Technology groups, relative to the professional development of personnel and sharing of resources in a manner most efficient in order to complete both production and development projects.
Implement company vision statement, mission statement, and corporate and departmental goals and objectives
Abide by, support, and enforce company policies; ensure department business operations are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
Prepare and administer annual operational and capital budget plan
Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary information
Periodic domestic and international travel required depending upon customer and business needs
In order to achieve business objectives, work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required

Primary Production Job Responsibilities
Lead and/or participate with project teams to define the electrical engineering and automation requirements, including planned hours, based upon the scope as provided by Sales
Create the design documents necessary for acquiring customer approval for electrical/automation designs and oversee production of design documents necessary for equipment production, both according to documented design procedures
Serve as Wagstaff’s primary technical contact to customer’s technical personnel for electrical engineering and automation issues throughout the project, up to and including product start-up
Provide documented technical and analytical evaluations for automation solutions keeping safety, functionality, and cost effectiveness paramount
Train and/or consult with other team members in support of the required engineering and designs for numerous Wagstaff product lines as assigned
Design conceptual and detailed PLC based control systems and related architectures
Program PLCs for direct chill aluminum casting pits and related device control
Program and develop SCADA and HMI systems
Test and troubleshoot hardware and software
Provide technical support to Wagstaff service personnel and customers to resolve customer issues as they relate to Wagstaff provided electrical/automation systems
Perform design review and post-commissioning review for continual improvement of Wagstaff automated products
Create, modify and maintain design standards as necessary
Serve as a subject matter expert for particular pieces of Wagstaff equipment, processes, or methods as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Minimum of seven (5) years electrical engineering and design experience; industrial experience preferred
Leadership Skills:
Supervise a staff of engineers and designers. Oversee recruitment, performance management, timekeeping, and compensation activities
Provide strong multi-department leadership, fostering alignment and collaboration across departments and work functions
Determine resource allocation to meet schedule requirements of assigned work
Develop structures and methods for departmental standards and guidelines
Set priorities and reconciles directions from competing interests.
Machine Commissioning / International travel required
Machine PLC Programming – Ladder Logic software development
Scada and HMI software development

Automation control system and control panel design
NEC compliant Industrial low voltage power distribution design

Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job on Wagstaff premises, work is performed primarily in an adequately lit, well ventilated, climate controlled general office environment. Close computer work is regularly required. The work usually involves minimal physical exertion. The noise level in the general office environment is usually moderate.
This job may require occasional or more frequent interaction with employees on the manufacturing shop floor. While on the shop floor, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with shop floor managers/employees may be necessary before entering the shop floor, and use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required on the shop floor. The noise level on the shop floor is often loud.
This job may also require occasional or more frequent travel to and work at customer sites. While at customer sites, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with a construction and/or manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with customer managers/employees may be necessary before entering the customer site, and use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required at customer sites.
