Full job description
Role: Cable Harness Assembly Technician
Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)
Salary: $71,000 - $80,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits
Role Overview: Seasats builds unmanned surface vessels that carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our platforms serve defense, scientific, and commercial customers who need to see, monitor, and respond across vast stretches of open water.
We’re looking for a Cable Harness Assembly Technician to install and manage electrical cabling across our Lightfish, Quickfish, and Heavyfish platforms. Most cable assemblies will arrive pre-built. Your primary responsibility will be installing them into connector plates and vessel hulls, routing and securing cable runs, and ensuring every cable and connector is correctly installed, labeled, and traceable.
You'll route and secure cabling inside the hull and make sure every connection can survive months of continuous operation at sea. As we ramp production across Lightfish, Quickfish, and Heavyfish, you'll be the person making sure cable install keeps pace with the build schedule on all three.
Role Details:
You will:
Install pre-built cable assemblies into connector plates per wiring diagrams and technical drawings for Lightfish, Quickfish, and Heavyfish
Verify correct cable-to-connector mapping and pin-out against schematics before installing
Install completed connector plates into the vessel hull
Route, secure, and manage cable runs inside vessel hulls including strain relief, chafe protection, and clean routing for serviceability
Label cables and connectors according to specification and maintain accurate traceability
Wire and terminate solar panel connections as part of the standard build
Diagnose and replace damaged or worn cables during rework, repair, or field return
Apply sealing and waterproofing around connector plate installs for marine-rated protection
Work alongside mechanical and electrical assembly technicians during install
Perform quality control inspections on connector plate assemblies and cable installs against company standards
Document install records, test results, and discrepancies; flag and help fix recurring issues
Flex across Lightfish, Quickfish, and Heavyfish builds as production priorities shift, and help standardize cable install practices across platforms
About You: You have:
Hands-on experience installing cables, connectors, or wire assemblies into finished products
Experience with cable routing and management (electrical panel wiring, wire harness work, or similar) in a professional or hobbyist setting
Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical drawings
Experience mating and installing connectors across multiple connector types
Comfort working with gaskets, or other sealing methods for environmental protection
Exceptional organizational skills and attention-to-detail: inconsistent labeling, a messy cable run, or a disorganized bench should genuinely bother you, and you fix it on sight without being asked
The ability to perform precise, repetitive assembly work while maintaining consistent quality
Good communication skills and the judgment to stop and ask questions when something does not match the documentation
Comfort working independently and alongside technicians and engineers in a fast-moving production environment
Bonus points if you have:
Soldering and crimping experience – you'll occasionally take on solar panel wiring and cable repair/replacement alongside your core install work
Background in marine, aerospace, or defense manufacturing
Experience supporting multiple concurrent product lines in a fast-scaling production environment
Due to export control requirements applicable to this position, we are only able to consider U.S. persons, as defined by U.S. export control laws. This includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and individuals granted asylee or refugee status.
About Seasats:
At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our USVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you’ll find the space and opportunity to do your life’s best work.
Along with your salary, you’ll receive perks including:
Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
401k matching up to 4% of salary
Four free lunches per week
An employee activity fund
A pet-friendly office
Unlimited/Flex PTO
Hiring Notes:
When applying, you’ll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.
Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.
We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, and we’re committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds.
