Salary : £28,137.61 Per Annum (Pending September Pay Award to be applied) Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, 9:00 – 16:00, Mon -Fri Weeks: 43 Weeks Per Year
Job Purpose: To provide strategic and operational leadership of the Progress Coach team, ensuring consistently high standards in learner progress monitoring, personal development, tutorial delivery, and preparation for adulthood outcomes across the College.
The postholder will line manage Progress Coaches, lead quality assurance and compliance processes, and deliver training and professional development to both Progress Coaches and Personal Tutors. The role includes a reduced caseload of up to 10 learners to model excellent practice and maintain direct learner impact.

Key Responsibilities & Safeguarding
1. Leadership & Line Management
Line manage and supervise Progress Coaches.
Conduct regular 1:1, performance reviews and development planning.
Provide coaching, mentoring and professional challenge to ensure high standards of practice.
Support workload management and staff wellbeing.
Contribute to recruitment, lead induction and appraisal processes.
Lead Progress Coach team meetings
2. Cross-College Collaboration & Professional Development
Work collaboratively with curriculum managers and other managers who line manage Personal Tutors to ensure consistency and clarity in tutorial expectations and personal development delivery.
Provide professional guidance and quality oversight relating to tutorial practice, target setting and preparation for adulthood outcomes.
Design and deliver training for Personal Tutors in partnership with relevant line managers and Learner Journey.
Liaise closely with the LSA Training & Development Manager to ensure alignment between Progress Coach practice, tutorial delivery and Learning Support Assistant development programmes.
Contribute to whole-college CPD planning where personal development and learner progress are priorities.
Support consistent implementation of policies relating to tutorial delivery, attendance monitoring and EHCP alignment.
3. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
Lead and implement quality assurance processes for Progress Coach practice.
Audit:
Caseload management
Target setting quality
EHCP review documentation
Attendance monitoring in collaboration ASO where required
Recording on DatabridgeMIS
Monitor consistency and compliance across the team.
Analyse data trends and implement improvement actions.
Contribute to inspection readiness and quality improvement planning with support from the Assistant Principal – Personal Development.
4. Personal Development & Tutorial Oversight
Oversee the quality and impact of tutorial provision.
Support consistency in the delivery of British Values, Prevent, consent and wider personal development themes.
Design and deliver training for:
Progress Coaches
Personal Tutors
Model high-quality tutorial delivery where appropriate.
5. Learner Caseload (Approximately 10 Learners)
Provide one-to-one and small group support (where appropriate).
Follow a structured schedule of learner tutorials.
Prepare and contribute to EHCP reviews.
Monitor attendance, behaviour, independence and destination planning.
Coordinate collaborative working with curriculum staff, parents/carers and external agencies.
Input, track and report on progress using the College MIS.
Act as a key point of contact for allocated learners.
Maintain accurate and timely records.
6. Safeguarding & Professional Responsibilities
Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.
Ensure compliance with College policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
Represent the College positively in external engagements.
Engage in ongoing professional development.

Queen Alexandra College (QAC) is a national day and residential College for people aged 16-25. The College has been at its current location in Harborne since 1903 and offers an innovative and holistic approach to learning and support for young adults with a diverse range of abilities and needs.
Our curriculum is designed to maximise adult life opportunities, develop independence and work skills. Programmes are delivered from pre-entry to level 3 and are tailored to suit individual needs, interests and ambitions.
Students studying at QAC may wish to consider joining us as a residential student. Part time, full time (term time only) and respite options are available to enable students to develop their independent living and social skills.
Following their time at QAC some students choose to move onto our ‘Independence Plus’ Supported Living programme. Clients on this programme still need support and the aim is to deliver a service that provides clients with the means to live independently/semi independently into the future.
