REPORTS TO: Fitness Center Manager

PAY RANGE:$17.05-$20.70
MISSION
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. The Vision of the Chicago Kroc Center is to impact individuals, families and seniors of the Southside while building community, promoting excellence, motivating wellness, teaching character, and encouraging faith.
OUTCOMES
Under the direction of the Fitness Center Manager, Fitness Center Attendants will provide excellent customer service and encourage safety in the Fitness Center.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will assist and work under the supervision of the Fitness Center Manager.
Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and training areas, vacuuming and sweeping.
Offer regular weight room orientation/instructional sessions to the members at various times throughout the day to adequately respond to the novice lifter.
Verifying membership status.
Insure the ability to move about fitness area insuring proper usage by patrons.
Insure the safe use of the facility by enforcement of facility regulations and insuring that authorized patrons use the facility.
Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
Report all equipment and fitness area problems to the Fitness Center Manager. Will notify members and staff when machines are out of working order or in need of repair.
Enforce all rules that pertain to the fitness and exercise room and facility on a constant basis.
Work with volunteers and work with them on a professional level.
Assist in any emergencies or accidents.
Handle disputes with participants and students in a professional manner.
Maintain a safe working environment; Report all harmful problems with facilities to the proper supervisor.
Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the pastoral team.
Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Certification or a degree in related field or level of experience preferred.
Two years or more experience working with fitness center equipment.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must have current credentials and/or certificates and /or license, if required.
Experience with a computer based work environment.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
COMPENTENCIES

Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
An attentive to and work appropriately with culturally and socio-economically diverse client population.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use equipment that is part of athletic and recreational programs. At times this employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds. The work environment for this position includes high levels of noise and flexibility in a constant changing environment.
