Full job description
About the Company
Redesign Health is a global venture and applied technology firm focused on building next-generation healthcare companies. We manage venture capital and venture buyout strategies, each powered by an AI operating system and a team of leading technologists, entrepreneurs, and investors. Since inception in 2018, Redesign and our portfolio companies have touched the lives of more than 15 million patients, raised over $1.5 billion from premier institutional, sovereign, and strategic investors, and built distinctive partnerships with marquee healthcare organizations around the world. Redesign is based in New York with offices in Bengaluru, Los Angeles, and Riyadh.
Like the startups we build, we embed AI deeply into all our operations — freeing our team to focus their creativity and technical judgment on the highest-impact problems. We seek curious, adaptable builders who are eager to experiment constantly and push the boundaries of what’s possible at the intersection of human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.
About the Partnership
Redesign Health and Cedars-Sinai have launched a Digital Innovation Platform, a first-of-its-kind venture creation engine embedded inside one of the world’s premier academic medical centers. The platform pairs Redesign’s healthcare company-building methodology with something no standalone venture firm can offer: Cedars-Sinai’s 4,500+ physicians and nurses, an expansive clinical network of 40+ hospitals and sites of care, a purpose-built synthetic and de-identified data platform, and a standing commitment to serve as the first customer for every company the platform creates. Ideas originate from the clinicians and researchers who see problems up close every day; the companies that emerge are validated in real clinical environments before they ever reach the broader market.
Initial focus areas include personalized medicine, specialty care access, hospital workflow optimization, clinical decision support, and care coordination.
About the Role
We’re looking for a technical builder who has done it before and knows what it takes to take an idea from -1 to 0 and turn it into a real product and a real company.
As Director of Technology, you are the technical engine of the Redesign–Cedars-Sinai partnership. Working alongside the VP of Technology, AI Ventures and the New Ventures team, you’ll embed inside Cedars-Sinai’s clinical ecosystem to find the problems worth building companies around, judge whether the technology to solve them actually works, and help diligence and then support exceptional founders to turn validated clinical theses into enduring companies. You bring the product and engineering conviction; Cedars brings the clinical truth and the first customer.
What You’ll Do
Evaluate opportunities and technology with Cedars-Sinai. Work directly with Cedars-Sinai clinicians, researchers, and operational leaders to surface high-conviction problems, then bring rigorous technical judgment to bear: Is this solvable with today’s technology? What’s genuinely hard versus merely unbuilt? Where does AI create a durable edge versus a demo? Separate real technical moats from hype.
Develop and stress-test theses. Translate clinical pain points and institutional white space into original, technically-grounded venture theses — anchored in workflow integration, stakeholder willingness to pay, and what the technology can credibly deliver. Identify the two or three questions that truly matter for each concept and resolve them through primary conversations and hands-on prototyping.
Run technical diligence. Lead the technical evaluation of concepts and the tools, models, data, and vendors they depend on. Build prototypes and proofs-of-concept that de-risk the hardest technical assumptions before a company is funded. Bring concepts to Redesign’s Investment Committee with an honest representation of technical risk and a clear path to Cedars-Sinai as a design partner and first customer.
Support founders and companies. Help exceptional founders make great early technical decisions — architecture, build-vs-buy, data strategy, AI/ML approach, and hiring. Once companies are funded, help them access Cedars-Sinai’s provider network and data platform for piloting, implementation, and research validation. Know when to lean in and when to step back — the founder’s success is the only thing that matters.
Scale your judgment through AI. Continually sublimate your differentiated knowledge and technical evaluations into LLM-enabled systems and workflows, so that landscaping, competitive mapping, and technical research compress from months into weeks — and your time stays reserved for the irreplaceable: taste, judgment, and building.
Help build LA’s healthcare-founder community. Cultivate relationships with local universities and technical talent, and help make the Cedars-Sinai Digital Innovation Platform the center of gravity for founders who want to build healthcare companies in Los Angeles.
What You’ll Need
You’ve been a founder early founding-team technical leader that has built a product and a company from the ground up and lived the -1 to 0 journey.
5–8+ years building technology with meaningful time as a CTO, founding engineer, or senior technical leader at an early-stage company. Health or health-tech experience is a strong plus.
A technical or scientific foundation with a degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or a related field, and a demonstrated habit of staying at the frontier of AI through building (or research).
Deep, current fluency in modern AI/LLMs to tell a real technical advantage from a wrapper, to make good build-vs-buy calls, and to guide founding teams credibly.
Commercial and product judgment to know which problems are worth solving and which to kill quickly.
The credibility to be taken seriously by clinicians, executives, and entrepreneurs — you earn trust inside institutions and move with urgency once you have it.
No investing experience is required, though experience mentoring or advising other founders (as an angel, accelerator mentor, advisor, or founder-helping-founders) is very helpful since a core part of this role is helping founding teams make great early decisions.
Who You Are
Technology Innovator. You have a track record of leveraging AI and emerging tools to create extraordinary productivity and impact. You’ve built systems and workflows for yourself far more sophisticated than basic ChatGPT usage, and you’re constantly experimenting with new ways to disrupt yourself.
This role will be a great fit if these resonate:
You’re a true builder who has made good technical decisions in uncertain environments and can credibly guide founding teams to success.
Founders seek you out for technical advice and trust your judgment on the hard calls — you’ve been the person others lean on to get their product and architecture right.
You have strong, specific views on how LLMs change what’s buildable in healthcare — and conviction in at least one area where you think most people are wrong.
You spend disproportionate time with clinicians, founders, and operators; a few sharp primary conversations answer questions weeks of secondary research cannot.
You surface risks early and communicate directly — strong opinions, loosely held.
You have the speed to kill: you say no quickly to concepts, founders, and your own ideas, so nothing lingers in an uncertain state.
You are profoundly motivated to transform healthcare and see technology and company building as the calling through which you can better the world.
How We Work
Patients are waiting — work with the urgency patients deserve.
AI sets the floor — nothing short of what AI in expert hands can deliver; taste and judgment own the last mile.
Stack the team — talent density is our greatest asset; raise the bar with every hire.
Trust people, challenge ideas — assume good intent; never shy from rigorous debate.
Sweat your craft — take pride in your work; seek feedback to continuously improve.
Go beyond — your role, your comfort zone, and your expectations for what’s possible.
Be the partner you want — high integrity, responsive, and genuinely invested in shared success.
No shortcuts — patient safety, clinical standards, and partner trust above all.
Location & Compensation
This is a hybrid role based in Los Angeles, with 3–4 days per week onsite at our Cedars-Sinai office. Compensation includes a competitive base salary that will vary based on years of experience, plus a market-leading carry and benefits package.
