As leaders in children’s mental health and wellness, St. Louis Children’s and KVC Health Systems Youth Mental Health Care have partnered to create one of the nation’s most innovative and transformative youth mental health and wellness campuses. The partnership includes a 77-bed acute care hospital and outpatient programs. Located on the KVC Missouri Children’s Mental Wellness Campus conveniently located in Webster Groves, Missouri, the peaceful environment and broad continuum of care allow children and families to access the appropriate level of treatment throughout their healing experience. Job Summary:
The security officer provides safety and security services to protect patients, visitors, staff, and property at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Camber Mental Health. They will monitor facility access, escort individuals, secure personal belongings, patroll grounds for safety concerns, address unauthorized individuals, and help de-escalate situations in lobby, visitation, and intake areas.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification: Valid Driver’s License and auto insurance with good driving record.
Experience: Two years of verifiable employment history related to this position, such as law enforcement, security guard, corrections, or specific military service.
Skills: Requires intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook email.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate professionalism and respect toward colleagues, patients, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
Patrol buildings and grounds to identify and address safety, fire, and security risks.
Respond to emergencies, coordinate with emergency personnel, and assist with evacuations and crowd control.
Investigate suspicious activity, safety hazards, and security incidents on hospital property.
Assist with fire, tornado, and safety drills, including documentation and staff training.
Inspect and maintain emergency and safety equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
Perform additional safety and security duties as assigned to support facility operations.
Additional duties may be assigned based on organizational needs and staff qualifications.
Physical & Work Environment
The conditions described are representative of those required to perform this role, with reasonable accommodations available. This position involves regular standing, walking, and communication, with frequent use of hands and occasional bending, kneeling, or climbing. The role may require lifting up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and 75 pounds occasionally. Standard visual abilities are required. Work is performed in a moderate noise environment with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.
Because this is a safety-sensitive role, the employee must be able to maintain appropriate alertness and attention to perform duties safely during scheduled work hours and to respond appropriately to changing conditions. The role may involve working with patients who may exhibit unsafe behaviors or require assistance with activities of daily living. Successful completion of required training (including crisis prevention/intervention and safety hold training, as applicable) and demonstration of competency are conditions of employment for this role.
