The Resident Advisor provides direct supervision, support, and motivation to young women at a shelter site while ensuring a safe and clean environment. They assist residents in achieving goals, maintain documentation in the ETO system, and collaborate with case managers to provide high-quality services.
Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED with at least three years of relevant experience, and an 8-hour security license is required. A Bachelor's degree and experience working with at-risk or homeless young females are strongly preferred.
About the role
The Older Female Program is seeking an Evening Resident Advisor (RA) provides supportive services to 20 single young women identified as ages 21-24 at a shelter site in the Bronx funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development. Reporting to the shelter site's program coordinator, the RA is an energetic, creative, and diligent team member, including case managers and specialty support staff. Resident Advisors will be expected to participate in training and implementation activities for evidence-based and other proven models that will be utilized.

Providing shelter and comprehensive services to young people experiencing homelessness in New York City.
Each year in the United States, as many as 2 million youth experience homelessness of some kind, and every year more than 5,000 of these young people lose their lives to the streets. For over 45 years, Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been a leader in providing residential services to vulnerable homeless, runaway and exploited youth. As the largest provider of runaway and homeless youth services in New York City, CHNY serves nearly 1,800 young adults aged 16-24 annually with an operating budget of over 24 million dollars. Our doors are open to all young people who need help, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. We facilitate our services using trauma-informed principles and provide a holistic approach to young people who are attempting to leave the streets and achieve independence. We also advocate for systemic change by influencing public policy and promoting awareness of critical issues related to young people experiencing homelessness. Covenant House New York’s mission is to help each young person find safety and refuge from the dangers of living on the streets. We do this through compassion, unconditional love and absolute respect.
