Position Title: Infectious Diseases Intern
Area of Focus: Primarily Hepatitis and HIV, other disease education outreach may be assigned as available
Internship Job Functions: Administrative, Coordination, Education, Outreach, Data Analysis
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship – experience can be used for academic credit if eligible.
Introduction
The Asian American Health Coalition dba HOPE Clinic is full-time, non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves the uninsured, under-insured, those with limited English proficiency, and low-income patients. HOPE Clinic’s mission is to provide quality healthcare without any prejudice to all people of Greater Houston in a culturally and linguistically competent manner.
Background
HOPE Clinic is a part of the Houston Viral Hepatitis Task Force. In addition to providing Hepatitis resources to the community, HOPE Clinic also offers infectious disease support as well in the form of testing, treatment, and education. HOPE Clinic is seeking one dedicated intern to provide on-site support for our infectious disease initiatives in the Houston Area.
The selected intern will:
Dedicate as many hours as needed, as determined by the intern and their supervisor, per week towards their assigned internship tasks;
Take meeting notes and minutes for scheduled monthly or planning meetings for upcoming infectious disease related updates, activities and events;
Create outreaching and educational materials for various infectious disease initiatives and campaigns;
Coordinate and support infectious diseases events such as the upcoming Hepatitis Symposium and Hepatitis Testing event;
Provide administrative and outreaching support for Hepatitis, HIV, or other infectious disease initiatives within the clinic;
Receive insight into the work of a Quality Improvement Project Coordinator and the public health field;
Transform academic knowledge into real-world application with mentorship from industry professionals;
Gain job transferable skills and experience through assisting with public health program management and implementation;
Learn the intricacies of real-world health data collection, tracking, and analysis;
Participate in educational outreach events and learn how to effectively outreach and assist diverse groups of individuals.
Requirements
Qualifications: The ideal Infectious Diseases Intern would possess the following qualifications.
Education: Pursuing, or has graduated with, an Associate's degree or higher in the field of Public Health, Community Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field;
Technical Skills: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), a windows computer, and Canva;
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with leadership, volunteers, and patients;
Cultural Competency: Deep appreciation for diverse populations and a commitment to creating highly accessible, culturally competent educational materials. Fluency in one of HOPE Clinic’s target languages (Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Arabic, Burmese) is preferred but not required;
Teamwork Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team is required.
