Candidates must hold an Illinois State EMT-P certification and a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Applicants must also pass pre-employment physical and lifting agility examinations.

The basic function of the Paramedic is to provide medical care and transportation for a patient at the Paramedic (EMT-P) level, within their scope of practice, as stipulated by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the system Medical Director.
