Shoreline Sightseeing is seeking dedicated, safety-focused Deckhands to join our Marine Crew for the 2026 season. As a Deckhand, you’ll work closely with the Captain and fellow crew members to ensure smooth vessel operations and, most importantly, the safety and enjoyment of our passengers.
This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, thrive in a team environment, and are interested in gaining valuable maritime experience on Chicago’s waterways.
Assist the Captain with vessel operations and safety procedures
Support docking, line handling, and passenger boarding/disembarking
Perform light maintenance and general housekeeping aboard the vessel
Uphold all safety and security standards in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations
Understand and execute emergency procedures when needed
Collaborate with the Marine Crew to deliver a seamless guest experience
Greet and assist passengers, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the tour
Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready vessel
U.S. citizenship required
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Commitment to safety and exceptional guest service
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Physical capability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and climb ladders
Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations
You will gain valuable marine operations experience while working alongside licensed Captains and experienced crew in one of the busiest waterways in the country.

Shoreline Sightseeing is Chicago's favorite tour boat company. Shoreline began with one vessel offering Lake Michigan Boat Tours showcasing Chicago’s fabulous skyline. In 1996, Shoreline brought the first Water Taxis to Chicago. In 1999, we began our very successful Architecture Tours on the Chicago River. Between 1999 and 2003 Shoreline commissioned three brand new vessels for its touring fleet: Star of Chicago, Evening Star, and Bright Star. Shoreline recently added three more custom outfitted vessels: Riverview in 2013, Cityview in 2014, Skyview in 2015.
