The General Mechanic is responsible for executing preventive and reactive maintenance of core infrastructure and support systems within Biological Safety Laboratories. Key tasks include maintaining electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, as well as managing building automation and safety systems.
Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts Journeyman’s Electrician’s License and at least four years of related experience in building systems maintenance. Successful applicants must pass rigorous background checks and complete specialized biosafety training for high-containment lab spaces.
The position is a General Mechanic within the Office of Facilities Management at the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory on the Boston University Medical Campus. The individual will be part of the maintenance team responsible for executing both the preventive and reactive maintenance within the NEIDL at BUMC. The focus of the individual’s tasks will be associated with the operation of the Biological Safety Laboratories (BSL) including core infrastructure and ancillary support systems.
