The New York Foundling provides opportunities for individuals to receive support, build independence, and achieve their personal goals.
Position Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, supervision, and well-being of individuals with developmental disabilities. This role provides support with daily living activities, implements individualized plans, advocates for individuals in the community, and promotes independence and skill development. The DSP also maintains required documentation and helps create a safe and supportive environment for individuals receiving services.
This position is located in Staten Island, New York.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure appropriate supervision, health, and safety of individuals and implement Individual Plans of Protective Oversight.
Advocate for individuals in the community, including medical appointments, recreational activities, church services, and home visits.
Assist with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, food preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and shopping.
Administer medications as prescribed and ensure individual plans of care are followed.
Complete daily progress notes, individual logs, and documentation of goals and outcomes.
Support skill development, including social skills, fire safety training, and independent living skills.
Plan and prepare balanced meals and maintain the residential unit in compliance with OPWDD and COA standards.
Transport and escort individuals to appointments and community activities and remain on shift until relieved.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid NY, NJ, CT, or PA Driver's License required with six points or less required.
Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities required.
Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.
AMAP certification preferred.
SCIP certification preferred.
CPR certification preferred.
First Aid certification preferred.
Pay Range
USD $19.00 - USD $19.95 /Hr.
