The technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing medical devices to ensure patient safety. They also manage the storage and distribution of these devices to various patient-care areas.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and have completed a Central Service Technician course. Certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is required or must be obtained.
Responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing and distributing the medical devices required for patient care in compliance with Infection Control Policies and Procedures. Central Service Technicians provide support to all applicable patient-care areas and offsite locations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduation of a Central Service Technician Course is required. Demonstrated experience, to include internship hours, is preferred. Successful completion of the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) certification or eligibility/readiness to take the certification is required.
Ambulatory – 95% Sedentary- 5%
Subject to stress and Fatigue. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination when working with patients and equipment. Subject to repeated bending, squatting and stooping. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
