Help Build SEH’s Civil Practice in Central Texas!
SEH is seeking a Texas-licensed civil engineering leader to help shape and grow our newly established Austin office. This is more than a traditional project management position. It is an opportunity to build a local civil practice, develop lasting relationships with municipalities and select private clients, lead project delivery, and help recruit the team that will support SEH’s long-term growth in Central Texas.
The right candidate will be a respected, client-focused professional who understands how infrastructure projects are planned, funded, designed, and delivered in Texas. You will have the freedom to help define where we compete, which relationships we pursue, and how the Austin civil team develops, while drawing upon the technical depth and resources of a national, 100% employee-owned architecture and engineering firm.
This is not a cold start. SEH already has employees and client relationships in Texas, experience serving federal and private development markets, and teams across the company prepared to support Austin-area pursuits and project delivery. You will work directly with senior leadership and have the opportunity to add local design and project management staff as the practice grows.
This Opportunity:
What You Will Do:
Lead the growth of SEH’s municipal civil practice in Austin and surrounding Central Texas communities.
Build trusted relationships with cities, utilities, counties, developers, partners, and other key stakeholders.
Identify client needs and develop practical strategies that convert relationships into projects and long-term accounts.
Serve as a senior project manager and technical leader for public infrastructure and select private development projects.
Lead proposals, interviews, client presentations, and community or public meetings.
Coordinate project delivery using local staff and technical resources from across SEH.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a local civil engineering team as backlog and market opportunities grow.
Work with SEH’s Community and Economic Development and technical teams to help clients evaluate funding and implementation strategies.
Represent SEH through professional organizations, industry events, municipal associations, and community involvement.
Develop and maintain client strategy plans, pursuit priorities, and an accurate opportunity pipeline.
Serve as a technical lead on multidisciplined civil engineering projects across Texas, especially in the greater Austin area.
What Makes this Opportunity Different:
Build, do not inherit: Help define the Austin practice, culture, client strategy, and future team.
Local leadership with national resources: Operate as SEH’s visible local civil leader while drawing upon multidisciplinary expertise across the company.
Existing momentum: Build upon current Texas staff, federal experience, private development relationships, and active regional growth plans.
Authority to grow: Help identify and recruit the project managers, designers, and technical staff needed as workload develops.
Employee ownership: Share directly in the value created through SEH’s long-term success.
Access and autonomy: Work directly with regional and company leaders while having meaningful influence over market and hiring decisions.
Essential Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (required).
Residence in or near Austin, TX, with strong regional connections and willing to travel throughout Central Texas
Proven track record of driving business growth and market expansion in civil engineering.
Flexible and broad technical skills across civil infrastructure disciplines.
Comprehensive understanding of public infrastructure funding—federal, state, and local.
Demonstrated ability to build client trust and contribute to business development, proposals, interviews, and project pursuit

Ability to build, develop, and guide engineering teams to achieve targeted business outcomes.

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and lead effectively in a growing office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Established relationships with municipalities, utilities, developers, or industry partners in Central Texas.
